What's the point of video referrals if they can't spot a player being wrestled to the floor by a defender who is not looking at the ball in the six yard box just as the ball is about to go right into the area he was standing? Pass interference, spot of the foul, clear as day. Oops wrong sport.

 

Both of those of looked like a linebacker wrapping up a running back in the open field. If NFL tackles are now ok, it changes things a little. ;-)

I know that game, too. Every Monday, Sunday or Thursday night game. Even though it's not too hard to avoid the Jets result, I spend the whole day distracted.

It decided to hit the Mexicans with a $10,000 fine for what it called “discriminatory and insulting chants.”

Mexico fans also chanted the slur during the World Cup four years ago, and during qualifying matches leading up to the games in Russia, resulting in a total of 12 sanctions, ten of which carried fines, Reuters reports.

Journalist Danny Armstrong also captured fans another anti-gay slur, “maricón,” outside of the stadium after the win.

Argentina and Chile have also been fined, and the chant has shown up in the United States, including at a recent LA Galaxy Pride Night game.

Players have urged fans not to engage in the behavior, even releasing a video in 2016 pleading with fans to stop, but it has persisted.

“To all Mexican fans in the stadiums, don’t shout ‘Puto,’” Mexican striker Javier Hernandez (above) posted on Instagram. “Let’s not risk another sanction.”

Some advocates, such as Outsports’ Cyd Zeigler, has called on FIFA to levy stricter sanctions, including stopping matches and clearing the stands when the chant breaks out, or even mandating the team play to an empty stadium from the start of the game.

“They have done this many times due to racism, and failing to take the same action against Mexico now sends a clear message that the soccer world refuses to take this seriously,” he wrote.

Mexico’s next match is against South Korea on Saturday, June 23.

I coulda made that penalty kick.

 

It’s been about 4 years since I last watched soccer.

Well, exactly 4 years but that’s not important.

I thought they were going to fix the divining and faking of injury in this “sport”?

Every time there’s the slightest bit of contact the players go down in a heap, head thrown back in anguish, grabbing their shin or hammy or side or balls.

In the last 10 minutes I’ve seen half a dozen incidents of such play acting.

Maybe it’s true that I don’t appreciate this beautiful game because I don’t understand it.

I know one thing I don’t understand, this constant flopping.

 

how do you feel about the flopping in the NBA? the only difference between the flopping in the NBA and soccer is the exaggeration of the pain, but even then it’s understandable in soccer considering they are getting kicked and hit going at full speed. In the NBA they get bumped from an opponent moving from a stopped position and flail about like they got shot by an cannon ball.

I simply don’t understand that criticism considering the popularity of the NBA.

 

Aaaa yeah I hate the NBA, don’t watch it so I don’t really care about the flopping.

My favorite part about the NBA are stories like the Ball kid NOT getting drafted then the Lakers informing him he’s not even being considered for their summer league. Fuck Lavar Ball

 

Fair enough. The NHL does it right, embellish and get a penalty. It’s a simple solution that the NBA could easily implement.

Lavar Ball is a national treasure, though.
