Sorry, guys, not meant to be hostile but to be focused on what matters.

The guy was hired to do a job, where he went to school and all the "feel-good" stuff they did there won't matter on the field when it comes to winning games. We know nothing of his family dynamic other than that tiny bit on the surface that's been reported and whether or not it will be helpful in his quest to win or hold him back is anyone's guess, but again that won't show up with the W's and L's.

The guy represents the best chance the Jets have had in forever to be a team others fear but only based on what happens on the field going forward.

You’re right. It doesn’t matter to you, but it does to Sam, and all I was attempting to do here was to give insight into the young man, his make up as a person, where he comes from.

I understand, our guys always come back and tell us that the NFL is strictly business, and that the love and passion for the game is played on the college field. NFL fans like you is why they feel that way, why players have pride bets and trash talk about the superiority of their university in every NFL locker room in the country.

I understand, you’re a modern throwback to the rabble in the stands watching gladiators fight to the death, all that is important is the game, and winning.

I hope Sam works out for you, for his sake, not yours.

Does Darnold know you are speaking for him? How is it that you know what is going on inside his head? And what is wrong with an NFL fan being more concerned with "the game, and winning" rather than what some college flag waver finds interesting, real or imagined?

This is the offseason, actually the deadest part of the offseason.

This is NO time to be talking about Sam’s family foundation or his schooling or his personality traits or feel good stories about his college or high school or growing up or his likes or dislikes or whether he heard Yanny or Laurel or his parents or his grandparents or positive vibes about his upbringing or possible insights into what we’re hoping he can achieve.

This is the time to discuss ONLY him winning or losing games.

Please stop with the puff pieces! It’s all HISTORY.

Discussion now ONLY about how Sam is playing ON the field in ACTUAL games.

    During the offseason.

    On a fan message board.

Yeah. Right. But when a prospect coming into the league who's had legal or drug issues; we can all "talk about his bad past" for days on end.

But the moment we draft a kid with a clean record and perfect background, we can never bring up these strong QUALITIES along with his up-bringing?

    Hypocritical B.S.

It’s unfortunate that a new poster comes here with some unique and interesting insights-maybe fluff, maybe not—and he gets jumped for relevancy.

It’s a freaking fan message board.

    Geezuz.

    That’s fine.

Just don’t let it happen again.

No, Wally, I don't think anything of the sort. I post responses to the content written regardless of who has posted it. I don't have any personal relationships with anyone here and that's the way I keep it until someone else makes it personal. Perhaps you should try to stay on topic and not make things personal - that's what the ground rules require.

Not to go backwards in this thread, but I think it does matter mostly because if you have someone with great talent who had an unstable upbringing the chance for off-the-field issues is significantly higher. That's a pretty well-known fact. And when I say stable background, I don't mean wealth (see Manziel). You don't need wealth to have a stable background, just normalcy, good parenting ( no matter who is doing the parenting), and a sense of security. So while I love when players transcend from an awful childhood and make it on and off the field, I still wouldn't gloss over the importance of having a solid foundation.

Hah, I didn't see this, but we pretty much just said the exact same thing. Difference is, you said it in 40 words or less, lol.
