Photo by Elsa/Getty Images The New York Jets have signed former Patriots defensive lineman Chris Jones. Chris Jones is a soon to be (July 12) 28 year old, 6’ 2”, 302 pound defensive lineman out of Bowling Green University. Jones was a 6th round draft choice of the Houston Texans in 2013 who was cut before he ever played a game for Houston. The New England Patriots picked him up and Jones excelled in his rookie year, registering six sacks and 61 tackles in 13 games. That turned out to be the peak of his career to date, as Jones has just three sacks and 50 tackles since 2013. Jones missed the 2015 and 2017 seasons due to injuries. Jets fans might remember Chris Jones for one heart breaking play in 2014. On October 16, 2014 in Foxboro the Jets trailed the Patriots 27-19 halfway through the fourth quarter in a game the Jets dominated everywhere but the scoreboard. Geno Smith played one of his rare turnover free games, and he led the Jets on a late scoring drive to get the Jets within two points at 27-25 with less than three minutes to play. The Jets tried an unsuccessful onsides kick, then stopped the Patriots in a three and out series. The Patriots punted and pinned the Jets at the 12 yard line with just 1:06 to play and no timeouts. Geno Smith promptly led the Jets on an improbable march to the Patriots 40 yard line, where the Jets lined up for a difficult last ditch 58 yard field goal attempt. Chris Jones timed his leap just right, got his hand up in just the right place, and Nick Folk kicked a bit low. Jones blocked the kick and the Patriots handed the Jets another frustrating loss. To make room on the roster for Jones the Jets waived defensive lineman Claude Pelon.
Wow, scrubs from when Geno could still get his hands anywhere near a football. I feel like I shouldn’t be regretting the last thirty or so years of bad decisions.
Something something something Macc only cares about defense Bowles doesn’t play young guys something something
MaCocknan.Toilet. Guy wants to play where he can get high at the Country Club. Toilet. No discipline. Toilet Blows. MaCocknan.
U No that he will be nowhere near as good with the Jets as he was with NE because of the downgrade from Beli to Bowles at coach.
In June you're not signing a difference maker. Pelon was a practice squader and they thought by signing Jones it'll bring in a veteran presence for a young d-line that needs it. If he proves he can stick good veteran to have. If the young guys look good and feel Jones is expandable they can cut him. No risk all reward with this signing.
Ha, this reminds me of Justin McCareins back in the day on another small board. McStiffy. McDroppings. MisCarrying. MisSteppings. McDroppedit. I get your post, though, good work. As an aside, though, Toilet, I am so sick of that one. I mean, as a Jets fan, at least go for Sally Bowles because life is a cabaret old chum.
I of course remember this....he broke our hearts. I would love for Macc to wait until the last day of TC, offer him a HUGE contract, then 1 minute b4 he is to sign it, cut him from the team.
This is a Frankenstein thing. The Jets are going to sign a whole slew of passable players, amputate each of their best parts and sew them back together. Once they are done they will have a monster DLman! I'll show myself out....
