Don't know what the role is but know there have been lots of players taken off practice squads and no one ever says no and stays. And lots of times players taken are players the team doesn't want to lose still I assumed it's a claim without options. Isn't that how we lost Woodhead?
yeah it's a big money jump. they make pennies on the PS. if a team offers them a minimum deal it's a huge bump up in pay and a chance so i doubt many would turn it down if any
I'd be willing to bet he's either inactive weekly or cut before the season starts. He's not better than any QB on their roster.
That was a tough game for me. He was/is one of my all time favorite Jets. Really was hoping he went to the Vikes that year as rumored.
Okay - I just watched Petty's last start as a Jet. He looked very crispy in the opening drive. He looked certain to score another one - except his RT pulls WFH on him. [Jesus.] With the score 7-6, he made a fateful mistake there; he should have lobbed the ball over for Marshall. He didn't see Wake waiting in the middle. It was all downhill from that moment on. And it culminated with Wake/Suh sandwich. Okay - Petty made his fair share of mistakes, but I still tend to think that the OL fucked him up more than Dolphins did.
And he's probably the best in the bunch too. [That includes Tannechoke that can't stay on the field.]
What are you talking about? His last game of 2016? This wasn't his last Jet game. We ended the season with the Pats last season. Not the Fins. And Marshall didn't play, he was out. And Petty is the reason Petty sucked, not anyone else's fault.
Devil’s advocate: a developing player is, by their nature, going to be more in the hands of the coaching staff for their success and failure than a veteran. So, whereas a veteran such as McCown has a long and varied array of coaches and their skills on which he could theoretically call upon to elevate his play, a new player does not. Now I’m not saying that the coaches had nothing to do with McCown’s career year. Frankly, I don’t know why he had such a great year all-of-a-sudden. However, I do think it is entirely plausible that a veteran can overcome awful coaching and have a good year where a developing player would be far more likely to be at the mercy of coaching mediocrity. Maybe that is what happened to Petty. I hope, for his sake, that he benefits from some different coaches as I have always like him as a person. Still, many of the same coaches that would be responsible for failing Petty are now goin game to be responsible for Darnold, so let’s hope I am wrong and the coaching had nothing to do with Petty’s failure.
What are you pissy about? I wasnt the one who lost a season and thought that 2016 was last year. LOL Amazing how some just can say, damn, my mistake
Coaches and teachers can only do so much before the student has to do things on their own. How many years of teaching does petty get before he’s no longer considered developing? Why does McCown’s age discount the fact that he was in this system for all of one offseason before he had a very good year? I think McCown’s success shows that the coaching staff can work with someone that has the talent to play at this level, even if it’s not overwhelming talent.
At least with the Dolphins picking him up it gets us off the hook for the final year of his rookie contract
He was a 4th round pick, I'm pretty sure the Jets were off the hook for his final year as soon as they cut him.
