I appreciate you bringing this into the conversation, but here is my main qualm with looking at it this way. This doesn't take into play how Bowles has a lot of these guys play and also doesn't address botched assignments from other players. For example, lets just say our corner screwed up an assignment and it effects Maye on the play.....that doesn't get captured here. I personally think Marcus had a very good first year and should have a good one this year, time will tell.
None offense taken, but I must say I was the one who posters wanted to kill for not being "impressed" with our trade to number 3 and giving up 3 second round picks. I didn't think we would get Darnold, the only player I deemed worthy of trading that much for. Anyway, I am very balanced when it comes to the team. As I stated in another post here, the first two years of Mac's campaign skew a lot of what he's trying to do now. He was pressured into making desperation moves for the press, like signing Mevis. Moves like that prevented us from making more long term moves with youth.
What I see from your mini roster is a lack of playmakers on offense or strong offensive linemen. Question marks do not improve a roster. The GM has neglected one side of the team entirely till this year. The league is geared to score and we are stuck on the 70's. By the time they get around to building the team, these guys will all be free agents and the cycle will start all over again. Nobody knows what Maccagnan big picture is because he doesn't know. He's winging it.
Well the Buck stops at the GM and HC...and yes Mac needs to tell his HC to stay out of it..but don't forget Woody set it up that Bowles IS NOT under Mac but reports to the owner..it's complicated and stupid imo
From Twitter. Two OL both in fifth round. Maccagnan's 4 yrs - 4 DL - 4 CB - 4 WR - 3 QB - 3 OLB - 2 OL - 2 RB - 2 TE - 2 S - 1 ILB - 1 P 1st Round: DL, ILB, S, QB 2nd Round: WR, QB, S 3rd Round: OLB, OLB, WR, DL 4th Round: QB, CB, WR, TE 5th Round: OL, OL, TE, DL, 6th Round: RB, CB, CB, CB, DL, RB 7th Round: DL, WR, P
I'm all about optimism and would love to see Mauldin be the second coming of Gastineau. But before we see him in the Hall, we've got to see him on the field first. Let's start by hoping he has a productive 2018 campaign.
Pro football focus is suppose to be a good site for early draft grades. In all fairness, they loved our draft and lets be honest, I don't shit about any of the players we drafted after our QB https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/pro-all-32-nfl-teams-2018-nfl-draft-grades
NY Jets Grade: "Elite"...my goodness.. looks like Darnold skewed the results but Ill take it! ..lol Hope they are right
I wouldn't have selected the guy....has a lot of undesirable traits but we have to support the layers we already have. I hope he can become a solid player for us....maybe in the mold of a Sam Coward or Calvin Pace. Lets keep our fingers crossed.
I'd personally rather wait until Mauldin is healthy before we make an assessment. He lost a year of development last year, we never saw a finished product. I don't even know that we ever will.
I think we have a great nucleus of young talent. Next year we are expected to have a lot of cap room again and I see us upgrading the Oline and adding those complimentary pieces to put us where we need to be. This is why I was so happy we rolled over cap room. We get one more year to evaluate the young talent and add those complimentary pieces next year. Plus we have our QB!
He broke the mold a little bit. His first drafts he stuck mostly with major college prospects. This year he's got 2 D2 prospects, along with lower level Tulane & UConn players.
eh... most of them were low round guys. Low round guys dont usually pan out, big school or small school. I don't think it will provide evidence about if its a sound strategy, its just interesting that Macc went that way
