That's okay, I know I'm nuts Maybe project is the wrong word. But he's not close to being ready, imho. We'll see tho
I’ve watched a bunch of Mayfields tape and even highlights and I still can’t get too excited. He reminds me of Johnny Football too much. The size, the system, the scrambling everything. He scares the crap out of me I’m trying to like him but there are just too many red flags
I still really like Mayfield, but I may have been too critical of Darnold. I went back and watched some more of him last night. This guy would be pretty awesome for the Jets. His decision making is a red flag and needs to be coached up, but that can be improved. If Mayfield/Allen go #1 overall, I think the Jets should pick the phone up and at least call the Giants. They may blow them off and say, "Yeah right", but I would be in favor of a swap of #2 and #3 in order to land Darnold.
A Draft night trade up??? We would be fleeced and possibly have no further picks this year and few the following..keep your shirt on If the Giants want Darnold or Barkley they just say NO...nothing you can do except hope they take Barkley which is a good possibility
I don't even want Darnold, much less trade up for him. I would be royally pissed if the Jets did that. That might be enough to end my fandom of the Jets while Mac is the GM.
I'm kind of neutral on Darnold, but when I watch his throwing motion it reminds me of Ryan Fitzpatrick. Anyone else see that?
Hey, he's a Jets fan. We're ALL freaking nuts! We've been driven that way by the Jets. Besides, Darnold IS a project. If you can't see that, you're the one with the problem. His footwork is awful. His decision making is often bad. He has a hitch in his throwing motion that slows it down. He's already had a bunch of interceptions in college, and in the NFL with better CBs and safeties, he'll have a lot more and knocked down passes if he doesn't/can't fix it. There are no guarantees that he will be able to fix it. He holds the ball too low in the pocket, and as a result has had a lot of fumbles. That might not be that easy to fix, either. There's no way he'll be ready to play early. He needs to sit for a year and maybe two. He's young and has talent, so he has a chance, but imo his best chance to develop is to go to a team where he can sit and learn for a year or two.
Can I assume from this that you don't like Rosen? Because if the Browns take Mayfield, it would leave either Darnold or Rosen for the Jets (and Allen - ugh). In that situation I wouldn't think of trading up and burning even more capital unless I was so convinced that one of them was the ONLY answer for me, which we can rule out since Macc was happy to go to #3 in the first place. Besides, I really don't think the Giants are taking a QB, so at 3 we still have Darnold or Rosen.
No, I still like Rosen plenty. I am mostly concerned with his durability. Rosen, Darnold, and Mayfield are the only QBs I will be satisfied with.
I'm starting to warm up to the idea of drafting Baker Mayfield these days. Over Sam Darnold, that is. ------------------------------------------ Okay. Parcells rule is not the end-all, be-all criteria to draft a QB - that much is obvious. But if that man goes by these rules and keeps drafting top quality QB wherever he goes, then maybe that's the good rule to take a good look at. Hell, he even uncovered this undrafted gem of a QB named Tony Romo, who happened to be 7/7 on this criteria. In this year's crops, Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph are the two 7/7 QB prospects. I really wouldn't mind seeing BOTH in Jets uniform. Well. Bryce Petty actually falls flat on his face in this criteria as well, coming at 4/7, 2 of which he literally got for free as he was graduating at that time. Same as Hackenberg - actually, he's much worse, coming at 2/7. Clearly, Parcells wouldn't have touched either of them with 10 foot pole even if he had to. So - there you have it. I was initially against dropping both kids in summer, but by now, I see no point in keeping either of them - lousy prospects that did not do much in the NFL. If Jets go with McCown/Mayfield/Rudolph, that might be more promising than McCown/Petty or Hack/Mayfield.
What is that? I don't remember. I think someone posted it somewhere recently but I lost track. edit: I found four. Are there seven? Must be a Senior. Must be graduating or have already received their degree Started for at least 3 years At least 23 collegiate wins
5. 2:1 TD/INT ratio or better. 6. 60% completion ratio or better. 7. 30+ starts, 23+ wins. [You only have 23 wins up above.]
Nah, ya think?.. If only "one more night" of watching Darnold swayed your thinking then guess what? You along with a host of others here (they know who they are) haven't gotten the 'big picture' where Darnold is concerned particularly the 'intangibles' he possesses. Watching Pac-12 games in-depth vs. "my favorite football idol on youtube" are two different kettles of fish. reading this ^^^ is like watching a monkey trying to fuck a football. "and with the 3rd pick in the 2018 NFL draft....the New York Jets select as the cornerstone to their future........" Cleveland at #1 will have the opportunity to pick any QB they want - any, as in Baker Mayfield: remember that come 8:00 p.m. tomorrow night.
I didn't realize how business like he is. He seems like football is his life and I really like that. Makes me feel confident that he will be able to cure his fumblitis.
Exactly, the guy's a 'football player' QB, not some TMZ diva. I'm being a crank because I'm resigned to the fact that there's no way in hell he's available at #3 unless by some miracle the Browns go for mr. big hands Josh Allen.
With regards to the bold above, you've seen a lot of that have you? I thought animal porn (bestiality) was illegal. I hope the police don't bust your door down! With regards to your last sentence, you're gonna feel awfully foolish if the Browns take Mayfield #1 and he winds up a star.
If Darnold is available when the Jets pick they need to sprint, I mean sprint to the podium and select him. no brainer
David Shaw on the QBs: He was on the Herd. This was taken from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/8evzb4/david_shaw_on_the_top_3_qbs_rosen_is_the_best/ His direct quote on Josh Rosen: "Josh Rosen is the best QB I've seen since Andrew Luck, there's no one else I'd want throwing passes for me if I were in the NFL." Contrasting him with Sam Darnold: "Sam is a QB who can fo everything you want, he can run, he can throw deep, run option reads, anything. I think Josh is the best passer, but he's limited to the pocket where Sam can do whatever you want." On Baker Mayfield: "Baker to me is a really accurate quarterback, but he wants to live the running back lifestyle, the wide receiver lifestyle. If you're going to play QB you have to live the QB lifestyle, you have to live in the film room the first few years if not your whole career and I'm not sure Baker has the mindset that Josh Rosen and Sam Darnold do on that."
