How elite does our defense become if we take Chubb?

First off - Chubb is not going to be our pick.
Second - with what we currently have players and coaches, Chubb would not turn us into an elite defense.

But those who discount his ability are sorely mistaken.
I think he is the best player in this draft - Barkley is second.

We will reach for an average at best QB prospect because we are desperate for a FQB while the teams that draft Chubb and Barkley will reap the benefits for years to come.

I disagree that we wouldn’t be elite with a pass rusher of chubs potential but the rest is pretty good

I do think we could potentially be very very good.

I am not sold on our LB core quite yet.
Our secondary should be much better and a pass rush would definitely help that even more.

But our coaching staff still has to put the players in a position to succeed - what we did with Sheldon leaves a bad taste in ones mouth.

I guess we will be one of the two that will regret it.

Or maybe, just maaaybbbbbeeee, the QB actually pans out? I laugh at the OP and threads like these who state that the QB we select will automatically bust and that Barkley/Chubb are perfect prospects who are going into the HOF automatically. lol

It's just an automatic trigger to say that a certain QB will bust. It can be made because the Jets have been incapable of getting it right for so long. Macc is making the pick and his record is atrocious. He needed a QB last year and could have had a pick of two without trading up. Was the Jets defense really that close to being good that they just needed back to back safeties? For a decade every pick they have made in the first round has been strictly on the defensive side of the ball. So I have no problem with people blasting an organization drafting record. Until they prove differently they will have to suck it and take that abuse. Show the fans that you got it right for once.

I know I will lose it. I will be more than happy to start a GoFundMe site to get the plane gassed up and banner flying again.

Jets have been drafting defense in the first round for years looking to create some sort of all time great defense. Never happened. Beyond that, a defense can only be so good if they're on the field all game. Jets need offense bad.

Agree. We appear to have drafted defence year after year as 'defence win championships' but the reality is they nowadays don't. A good defence and a mediocre QB may do but we've not been able to even marry those two paets of the jigsaw together. We've had at various times a good defence but inadequate QBs or we've torn down a good defence and had adequate QBs. Either way we didn't win enough games and with the confidence to be able to give it a shot.

Same here. Even an isolated UK brit can only take so much. I'll convert sterling to dollars to fund the banner for that plane if we draft defence in R1 again.

This is the year of trolls for some reason. They just can't stop posted absurd nonsense. The Jets are not taking a non QB. Anybody that knows anything about anything knows that. Just stop.

Rosen makes the Jets a much better team than Chubb does. Its a rare team that can put a defense so strong that it can win the SB with a scrub as a QB. The 2000 Ravens team was 18 years ago, not a year ago

Chubb is a very good player but more leonard williams than vic beasley. Run stopping athletic 3-4 DE. Likely not quick enough to be an OLB in a 4-3.

    1. 15 years ago is an eternity with the changes in the NFL
    2. They had an offense to go with their D
    3. 3 whole years later?

I wonder what team the OP is really a fan of.
