It’s been amazing if not surprising to see how divided we are on this trade as a fan base. Figured I’d run it up the poll...
Absolutely. In a draft that looks to have the most QBs drafted in the first round since 1983 (35 years ago), with the big 3 easily going before #6, and our desperate need for a FQB, it was a no brainer.
It's not that much. People are crazy on this board. Great move. Anyone upset is not factoring 2 things: Past trade up costs and oh yeah: The Jets potentially get a FRANCHISE QB.
Although they are second round picks, one can never know who the players are and if they will pan out. Hopefully the Jets make the right pick at number 3 otherwise the curse is on.
If they sat at 6 while Buffalo moves up for a QB and they miss on the top three or four it would really really suck
In terms of draft value, this trade was a disaster. But if we didn't do it, the Bills would have traded up and none of the top 4 QBs would have been left by the 6th pick. If I were a first year GM I wouldn't have done it, but considering this is Mac's last year if he doesn't get a QB, it was a no-brainer for him.
I felt nauseous when we traded up for Sanchez in '09, as I never believed in Sanchez as a prospect. BUT in that trade we really didn't have to give up that much at least. We got fleeced in this trade, and we don't even know who it was for. I'm not quite nauseous as we don't know who it's for, but I can't feign blind optimism that we've somehow landed a pro bowl QB either. If we draft Allen or Mayfield I'll feel better, although I feel we could have got one at 6.
The answer is no! Even if the QB ends up being a star, we don't have a line to protect nor the weapons to surround him with. This is an impossible situation for anyone to perform well under. Keep the pick, make smart conservative picks to continue stocking the roster. Chubb+Billy Price+Sony Michele for example sounds a lot better than just Rosen or Mayfield.
Most of them don't come out of South Dakota State either or go #2 overall. There were many pundits of Wentz. So much so that it could have deterred a trade up. But, gambles pays off. You can't win if you don't play the game. After decades of bullshit, this risk is worth the reward. What do we have to lose?
Ridiculous IMO. This team is more than a QB away for a playoff run and it’s not sure thing that a franchise with a horrific track record for QB development can even develop the right guy! The fucking Bills of all teams made the Jets nervous and desperate. There is no way I give up four top 50 picks to move up 2 spots! This is why the Jets continue to fail. They can’t draft for shit and when they have ammo they throw it all away. Like a poker player who finally has the chips back and then proceeds to “go all in” yet again. Keep in mind this guy has NEVER hit when he goes all in... fucktards
Maccagnan drafted the face of the defense in 2017 and the face of the offense in 2018. Fans should be elated and excited for the future.
I don't like the move. As so many posts and news articles point out, there is no one stand out in this QB class. One week its Rosen then its Darnold, then its all about Allen's arm, Mayfields fire , etc. If they wanted a QB they could have gotten one at 6 and kept the other picks to strengthen a fair at best OL. Now if the QB they want is taken at #1 and/or #2 do they go with the 3rd best QB or do they take Barkley or Chubb? I would go Barkley.
Well the #49 is practically a freebie. How we got it is unreal. A chance at a FQB by swapping from #6 to #3 for: Hackenberg, Devin Smith, Jace Amaro, Geno Smith, Stephen Hill, Vlad Ducasse, Kellen Clemens, Justin Miller, Mike Nugent, Victor Hobson, Jon McGraw, LaMont Jordan, Dorian Boose, Rick Terry, Alex Van Dyke, Ryan Yarborough, Coleman Rudolph, Kurt Barber, Browning Nagle, or Reggie Rembert. Or on the off chance, they turn out to be like: Maye, David Harris, or Randy Thomas. Those are all of our 2nd rounders since 1990. Given the odds, taking away the fact that #49 is a freebie, we would be ABSOLUTELY LUCKY to have even ONE of the 2nd rounders become remotely decent. I like our odds.
