I think he would be an upgrade, but maybe the price is wrong.

Pugh would be decent. He's not old either at only 27.

We should go after Alex Okafor. Only 27, familiar with Bowles. Had his best year with him too, 8 sacks.

Not to be confused with Errict Rett or an erect NC Jet fan after the Jets stunningly trade for ASJ to get him back after week for of the 1028 season

but you could offer him $12M and still blow everyone's offer away

Do we want to do that though? I want Badger here pretty badly but $12 mil a year for a slot corner/rotational safety (unless you’re benching Maye or Adams full time which you aren’t) is steep. I like the way Macc has spent so far... any more than 9-10 mil for Badger would be teetering on worrisome.

I think it comes down to guaranteed money. Anyone can offer a contract that can be broke after a few years. I would offer 22 for 2 years with 15 guaranteed.

I’d sign up for that. I just think he can get more elsewhere. He’s a top tier DB. Someone will overpay him.

I see you still have your reading comprehension issue. Sad, but carry on. You're just making yourself look dumb, not me.

Once again, it isn't so much about ASJ. He had a lot of receptions, but not big stats in terms of yards or TDs. If the Jets signed him to a one-year deal and moved on from him next season if his production didn't improve in 2018, would have been fine with me. His lack of yards and TD could have been a product of the routes he was asked to run and how he was used, or it could be that he's not that good. I do think he will put up a lot better numbers with Jacksonville this year and could have for us if perhaps used differently, but I could be wrong about that. ASJ was a nice story, but not my favorite Jet, and I won't miss him.

My beef was more about Mac creating another hole when we already had so many holes that needed addressing. IMO that was not the smartest thing to do, especially over a few hundred thousand dollars with all the cap space the Jets have. This is even more the case when the Jets don't have a viable replacement starter on the roster. Leggett missed practically his entire rookie season. Is he even healthy now and will he be able to stay that way? He was only a 5th round pick anyway. Tomlinson is a FA. Sterling? Meh Gragg is also a FA. Double meh.

Anyone have a handle at where the Jets are with their cap? Would be interesting to see if they're even close to spending the 90M (much less the 89%/4yrs).

Was thinking about this in the context of Mathieu. I know he's not looking just for the money, but he's got family here AND the Jets should be able to front load and guarantee a lot in this first year.

    Rough numbers based on APY:

    McCown at 10
    Bridgewater at 5
    Johnson at 14.5
    Long at 7
    Williamson at 7
Crowell 3 (this was reported as the guarantee in year 1)
    Enunwa 3
    Claiborne 7

That's $56.5 mil spent not including whatever Brooks is making on his new 2-year deal and Santos on his 1-year deal.

    Thanks for doing that roundup.

So if we round it up to 50M, and over estimate 10M for the rooks, that still leaves around 30M on the table. More than enough to make some quality moves, like signing Mathieu and, if he becomes available, Pouncey.

Updated with Claiborne's contract too. It leaves us with about $30 mil, take away $10 mil for the rooks and it's about 20ish. When you lay the numbers out, it looks pretty unlikely that we're going to land Badger unless he takes a sweetheart deal.

Edit: Eh... if you cut Skrine and can get Badger in the 8-10 range, that actually works out to be a minimal change. Too good to be true, so it won't happen.

I agree there, but it's not like theyre flush with play makers on the front 7.
usually easier to keep your own than find someone else

I'd like to retain him on the cheap. I think the longer FA goes, the better of a shot we have to get him under market value. He's solid, nothing more, nothing less. But considering we are down to a DL of Williams and McLendon...
