You do make a good point...alot of edge rushers are predicted to have major impacts in the NFL and never do...I'd just like to think Chubb could be the next Joey bosa...well of course if he's in green and white otherwise I'm fine if he's a bust lol.

The thing is, they don't have to get close to 10 sacks their rookie season. In fact, I doubt that anyone in the NFL expects any edge rusher in the draft to get 10 sacks his rookie season. It's one of the hardest positions to learn. It frequently takes OLBs 2-3 seasons to develop because their have so many more responsibilities in the NFL, more complex schemes both on D and on offense, etc. In addition, if they were a great pass rusher in college, they often need to get stronger so they can hold the edge vs the run, and if they were a great edge setter in college, then they usually need to work on their quickness and developing more pass rush moves. Even the best college pass rushers often just get by on their natural speed and a bullrush. As you know, many NFL 3-4 OLBs played with their hand in the dirt as college DEs, so there's making the adjustments, learning how to rush the passer standing up, etc., then there's learning to drop back in coverage. As long as they develop in 2-3 years and can contribute their first two years as pass rush specialists, edge setters or on STs, that's fine imo.

All of that may be true but it still begs the question of whether the guy you draft can do all that in the pros. I think the chances of success are less than QB, but the position is important, so I wouldn't fault anyone for drafting one high. Nevertheless, for a team that needs both edge and QB, QB is the greater need IMO.

I agree that the chances for success are less than with QBs. That's why there are so few good edge rushers and they're always in demand.

I also agree that we need a QB more than edge rusher. I'd love it if we could get a QB in the 1st round and an edge rusher in the 2nd round, but know that's too much to hope for.

Is he really, or is his current adulation more a result of his extraordinary combine results? If you look at his record at PSU this past season, he only rushed for more than 100 yds in 5 out of 13 games and 1200+ total yds. To me, those numbers don't match the hype the guy is getting. Compare to Ezekiel Elliot who rushed for over 100 yds in 12 out of 13 games or Todd Gurley who rushed for over 100 yds in 6 out of 6 before he got hurt his last year. I get the fascination for this guy, but I have some doubts. If I had to make the choice, I think I would go with Allen. Despite his well-publicized weaknesses, I think there is enough raw talent there to justify the pick for the Jets.

Well you're comparing potential with actual production...potential - dreams of the future - will win out every time. If you watched tape of him, and added in his own "raw talent", he is clearly the best player in the draft.

Watch him run. If for no other reason than entertainment value. Every time he runs it's a touchdown waiting to happen. He's big fast and elusive. His upside is at a level where I'll get into trouble for name dropping.

I was going to make a thread on this in the Jets Forum, but is there a way for @Brook! or another Mod to move it to the Jets section and re-open or re-start the Poll? I think more people would post in it and it is clearly the #1 discussion now for Jets fans.

    Hi TDK

I started a thread on mod forum to allow draft discussions on Jets main board. Wait a day or two until we finalize our internal discussion. Leave this thread as it is now. If we decide to allow draft discussions on Jets main forum I will reach out to you so you can start a new thread over at Jets forum QB's with a new poll. For now, hang in there please.

Actually, I was just about to ask that question..if the top 4 QBs are gone when we pick at 6 do we make the huge reach for Jackson or do we take that OG from Notre Dame?

Cool. Sounds good. @BacktoQueens or anyone can make it. Just a thought I had since it is such an important topic for the fans and franchise overall.

if all 4 are gone, Barkley or Nelson will be there, and that is who I'd take for sure.
i think both guys are perennial pro bowl material.

if you like Jackson can trade up a little and get him end of round 1.

I expect Barkley to go to Cleveland with either their 1 or 4. So I am thinking all 4 QBs and Barkley will be gone.

The Jets' second biggest need, and the 2nd most important position on the team is an edge rusher. Assuming the top 3-4 QBs are gone, if Mac takes an OG or RB at #6 rather than taking Chubb or trading down and taking Davenport or another edge rusher, then he should be fired on the spot.
