I don't like grades, but I just take little tiblets from their website. https://www.profootballfocus.com/ne...cer-long-and-g-shawn-lauvao-both-placed-on-ir Hopefully he is durable with the Jets. Looks to be a pretty good pass protector but probably average at best in the run game. I'll take it over what I saw last year for sure. If he can pass protect for the young quarterback, then it's a win.
I'm just concerned we seem to keep taking the cheap option with our Oline. I know Mac's philosophy is to find interior lineman in the later rounds and I would be more confident in taht if he actually pulled that off as of yet. Shell looks like a low to mid tier guy right now and Johnson was a disaster of a signing. Going with Long does not fill me with confidence that he is about to fix things in the offensive trenches.
Jets don't have a top 10 starter anywhere on this line, I agree the signing of Long does not exude confidence. Mac is rather cheap when it comes to the line and other things as well, that's just his mindset. Long hopefully he can hold his own a little bit, cause the guard performance will get better.
He's a serviceable player, but he has never been able to stay healthy since entering the league. Luckily the one successful thing we have always had despite having a crappy owner, bad HC's/GM's and teams, we've always seemed to have a very good training staff that has been able to keep a lot of guys healthy who had injury problems on past teams, even if it was only for 1-2 years. So, I'm cautiously optimistic with Long. That said, we NEED to get a capable back-up C in here, either in the next few weeks or in the mid-rounds of the draft, like Billy Price or Ragnow from Arkansas. Worst case scenario is one of those guys proves his worth and Long can switch over to LG when Carpenter likely departs following the 2018 season.
Maybe they're putting all their chips in for Billy Price. Because they're dumb. He'll probably be a late first round choice.
You have to wonder if that injury he suffered during the combine will allow him to drop to our first 2nd round pick. I miss having a mauler in run game, as well as a great communicator in terms of setting the protections.
Seeing that OSU uniform makes me romanticize about a real Mangold replacement, but that injury is not bad enough to drop him to the 2nd round. If the Jets really want him, they'll have to trade up or down to the mid first.
Pouncy has the name recognition but Long grades out better and apparently neither one can stay healthy.
La la la I can't hear you and all that jazz. Looking at your past posts, it's so obvious. Can't change a dog's spots, can you?
Scouts have given him the same grade apparently as Nick Mangold so you are not far off. It is wishful thinking to think he would be available in the 2nd, but I will pray to the football Gods anyway. We desperately need a C worth a damn. Take a QB at 6 then trade back up for Billy would be a great idea
Billy Price would be awesome, but James Daniels and Frank Ragnow sound like great prospects too. Daniels is supposed to be a great fit for a zone-blocking scheme
Their stock has risen because of the Price injury. I wouldn't hate them, but they are nowhere near Billy Price.
So sorry if this was already posted. Just saw it. http://m.newyorkjets.com/news/artic...cer-Long/301c3b01-33f1-4277-a658-604b63e7a27f
