Quick poll to gauge opinions on “plan B” if we miss out on Cousins, which seems like the most likely scenario.

Obviously, he’s the only thing resembling a franchise QB on the market. If he goes to Minnesota, we’re going to have to sign a veteran and pursue a franchise QB in the draft.

Would you go with Teddy or McCown?

Both have pros and cons. McCown had a good season for us, is loved in the locker room, knows Jeremy Bates and offers some continuity. However, he’s 39 and you obviously wonder how long he can hold up.

Teddy is 25 and offers significantly more upside, but the knee is a major question mark looming over him. He’s rumored to be seeking a 1-2 year deal to prove he can still play.

Teddy but not as a bridge QB...In hopes that he can be a franchise QB if the leg holds up (Would still draft a QB not necessarily in the first round)

Also AJ McCarron could be an option that no one talks about

Bridgewater because of his upside AND a QB high in the draft.

I also wouldn't complain with McCown and a QB with their top pick though

I've been watching more film of Bridgewater lately and I'm kind of warming up to that as a fallback plan. Except as noted above I'm not sure he couldn't just be your QB period.... not really a bridge to anything. He could be the Bridge AND have the water under it.

Also puns aside I'm assuming his leg is healthy. In my mind if it is he's fine and good to go. If it isn't he's not going to be any bridge to anything anyway.

Go with McCarron and see if Cleveland which saw something in him might have been right when they wanted him,Bridgewater I have no problem with but the leg has to be healthy and not fragile, McCown has proven to have a lot of heart want and capable but not for a whole year, the talent on a consistent basis just isn’t there.

I say Teddy. I like McCown, but Teddy has tons of upside and has also shown great leadership on the Vikings, even as the #2 QB. I think he'd be a great locker room guy, even if he never starts and can't beat out a rookie QB. I wouldn't be upset with McCown or anything, but he's old enough that we should be able to just hire him as QB coach by now. If they bring in Teddy, they should absolutely still draft a guy.

I agree Bridgewater. Any man who goes by Teddy had too be able fight as a kid.

Probably should’ve added McCarron as an option but Teddy/McCown are the only 2 I’ve seen rumored to us

I say Teddy. He is high risk due to injury but if we hit the jackpot, we are safe for 10+ years.

I have no issues grabbing Teddy. Get him ASAP and still draft a QB in first round. Let them battle it out. You need a competent backup in this league anyway. And have McCown mentor them. Bye Petty and Hack.

Either or both MUST include a QB in round 1.

It's intriguing. Is there reason to believe it was one major injury that will not have lingering/long-term effects? If so, it can't be forgotten that he was and up-and-coming high end QB, possibly already upper-echelon, prior to his injury.

Yes. He wasn't a world beater before getting injured but potential is there. Vikings couldn't really assess him properly due to injury. If doctors clear him I will sign him to see what the guy is all about.

But he did put up good numbers and PFF rated him very well in his years as a starter (I know, it's PFF, not the final word, but worthwhile data).
