There's nothing inconsistent with that view.

The "O" suck because we have a defensive HC. The "O" would be better is we had an offensive coach.

    Where's the contradiction?

Exactly! There is no contradiction. A HC should be involved with both the offense and defense, as well as the STs, andnot just care about one unit. He won't know as much about the units with which he doesn't have experience, but he can learn.

In other words, he sucks, and might possibly find work as a used car salesman.

Agree, think they'll hold onto Have until he proves he can't be a backup. If that happens he's gone. Will be easy if they land Cousins or draft a young guy to take over.

I also think that with most positions, yes the HC decides who plays and to what degree. QB is different though, both their careers are so tired into making the right decision. If the GM needs to know what he has in this QB and wants to see him in some kind of NFL action, the HC has to help out, his future is tied into the position.

So to recap, Bowles is a problem when we imagine that he won't be able to develop a QB. Because we've seen nothing that backs the point other than conjecture. And the QBs, both having career years here, says nothing. If the offense struggles, it's on the HC because he's in charge, of it theives, it's sure to the OC? Sorry, that sounds more agenda driven than factual.

Because it's pure nonsense? Because you can't explain why this "defense only" HC has 2 long-time veteran QBs have their career years under his watch? Most HCs allow their coordinators to run their units. There are so many examples of defensive coaches who coached teams with great offenses it proves the thinking wrong. Love the idea that a coach who has made his career diagnosing and stopping offenses doesn't have a clue as to how an offense can beat a defense. Doesn't have the ability to attach a defense. This somehow makes sense.

Nonsense. Did Bowles give Hack any playing time last year? The year before when Fitz was so awful, did he give Petty any playing time to get his feet wet? No, he didn't. Also, the supposed QB competition was a sham in TC. McCown got most of the meaningful reps early and Hack and Petty got relatively few, then when Bowles' mind was already made up as to who would be the starter, he gave Hack and Petty a bunch of reps that were essentially meaningless in terms of who would start.

If Bowles has nothing to do with the offense (which he doesn't), how could he have any impact or affect on Fitz and McCown having career years here? If the offense struggles, ultimately Bowles has to answer for that because he's the HC, and ultimately responsible for how the team plays, even if he has nothing to do with the offense per se. It's his job to make sure that his OC and the offensive assistants that HE hired do their jobs well. You're the one wanting to have it both ways. It definitely sounds like you can't see the forest for the trees.

    1. You have no idea that Macc asked Bowles to give Hack or Petty playing time, thats your assumption. Conversation was could he get the HC to play someone at QB that they needed to evaluate.

    2. Theres a huge difference between playing someone who is ready to be even close to being evaluated with someone who has no business being on the field, someone who you know will fail and isnt prepared. Makes no sense other than to satisfy the curiosity of fans.

    3. The QB competition is always deemed a sham when the guy you want to win doesnt. The press, players and every coach said that clearly McCown outplayed Hack by a large margin in camp. He obviously was outplayed in the preseason. To argue otherwise is pure nonsense.

    4. You keep spinning like a top. You keep telling all that Bowles has nothing to do with the offense, never mind you have no idea what he does or doesnt have to do with the O, so he cant have anything to do with the QBs. The you say that Bowles will hinder whoever we draft. While not having anything to do with the O. Gotcha. Bowles just sucks and you're just going to stick to it no matter how little sense this makes in regards to the QBs. Absolutely love the hypocrisy. And the failing logic. Those QBs just coincidentally had their best years here. With little surrounding talent and a defensive HC. Maybe you can explain how other defensive background HCs had great offenses.

The real problem are the fans. They think a player drafted in the first 3-5 rounds should be on the field - so they can cheer or boo them to their hearts delight. With Hack, WE ALL KNEW that he was a project and it would take at LEAST 2 YEARS - as many experts have stated to say that we won't see any thing come to fruition before then. This is a fact that many have forgotten. .

Now that we're approaching year 3, even before the draft there are many here absurdly thinking that Hack will be off the team before 2018 season starts. Very funny. Reason they think is is only to prove themselves right? Or they just love see more failed projects go the wayside so they can make threads about firing Mac and Bowles and bring another regime in to start another 5 YEAR FU%KIN plan???

It just goes to show you that misery loves company, Jets fans are the rule that define this anomaly.

No, the real problem is the F.O. using a high 2nd to pick a player that at best would be able to
No, the real problem is the F.O. using a high 2nd to pick a player that at best would be able to play in two years. That's what they call stupid, and don't believe for a second that they expected the 51st pick to be a developmental pick.

If Macc hit on the pick. if Hack went back to what he was projected as after his freshman year at PSU he would have been an all time steal. Its a risk in that they were trying to hit lightning in a bottle. Last thing it was is stupid. Its a 2nd round pick, not a top 10 pick. Fans over do the drama of a missed pick and try to turn it into more than it was

Don't kid your self thinking that they picked Hack and not expected it to be developmental. Yes they could have waited another round but there is no doubt they were trying for a player they felt they could mold into one that would be their star in 2-3 years. The project is not over yet by a long shot- But of course, you and many others think it's done and over. Don't be too sure.

If I recall correctly, Hackenberg started the 2 most important preseason games (2nd and 3rd). That QB competition wasn’t rigged. If anything, it was tilted in HIS favor, and he just shit all over himself.

Year 2 of the development plan has been completed. If during year 3 it remains status quo, you can bet they'll be a lot more unhappy campers will climb aboard. Hack has been working diligently with QB Guru Jordan Palmer so it stands to reason, we should see if the 2 year program has reached it's climax this coming season.

LOL Whatever. You can continue with the strawman arguments and your spinning. You can't even respond accurately to the points I made. We aren't gonna agree, so I see no point in talking past each other. But I will respond to your points one last time.

    1. I never said that Mac asked Bowles to give Hack or Petty playing time. Where in the heck did you dig that up from? I stated that is Bowles' decision. YOU'RE the one who suggested that Mac could ask or order Bowles to play Hack. You can't even keep straight what you've said.

    2. That is true to an extent, except that even with fewer reps, Petty outplayed Hack in TC, and he wound up 2nd on the depth chart to Hack's #3, yet Hack got to start preseason games #2 and #3. I didn't think that Hack should start, and I never argued that he should have. Again, you're just making crap up or have little or no reading comprehension.

    3. If you can't see that the QB competition was a sham, then either you just didn't want to see it (or won't acknowledge it) because it doesn't fit your agenda, or you're just ignorant about football. McCown had a huge edge in that he had played in the WCO before and had a lot of experience. Petty had only a little experience and Hack none. Despite that McCown got the majority of the reps early on. If it was a fair and open competition, the reps would have been distributed evenly at worse, and Petty and Hack should have been given more reps than McCown early to level the playing field. Later they were both scrambling to catch up. If one or both of them were better prospects they would have had a fairer chance of winning the starting job, but with Petty and Hack, they stood no chance.

    4. You're the only one who spinning, creating strawman arguments against things I didn't ever say, and conveniently ignoring other things I did say where you know you're wrong. The rest isn't worthy of a response. It's lies and utter BS! You have zero integrity, and I'm done with you.
