Can't believe Belichick benched him. He was covering his eyes during the national anthem and it looked like he was crying. This guy is going to be a free agent this off-season. That benching by Belichick had to hurt his free agent stock.
The Jets need to get this guy because we need another corner and most importantly, this guy will play against the Pats twice as hard because of this.
Don't know enough to say exactly what he is worth, but there is no doubt that going to a team like the Jets or Pittsburgh would play very well into a chip on his shoulder. The Jets obviously need to upgrade at CB, so I certainly hope they do their due diligence on this guy and make him a reasonable offer if it's in any way appropriate.
It was a weird benching for sure, but be careful what you wish for. Butler was very mediocre this season. I don't know if it was a chemistry issue with Gilmore or something else, but Gilmore really improved during the season while Butler got worse every week. He'll play hard, but I wouldn't pay him big money.
Very weird. Eric Rowe, Bulter's replacement, said Do you think we'll ever find out why Butler was benched? Supposedly, Butler and his replacement didn't get the word until right before kick-off, and Butler didn't get even one defensive snap. There has to be a whole lot more to this story.
Hes been overrated since day one. Not hot garbage, but certainly nothing close to a shut down. They were right to bench him. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Weird even before his mediocre year in 2017 they were really close to trading him last off-season. If it's reasonable I'm definitely interested in signing him. For what it's worth he wasn't too too bad according to PFF
He's overrated as hell, but there's not a chance I would've benched him and played Bademosi instead. Actually, I get it now, they were right to bench him because that was one of the reasons why they lost
I feel that Butler gets overrated because of his game saving INT in the Super Bowl against Seattle. He's ok, but nothing special.
Here's a rumor I'll start right here, right now. Maybe Butler was caught working out with Brady, Guerrero and crew at TB12 in the weeks leading up to the SB and Belichick caught wind of it and of course anything Guerrero/TB12 related pisses him off. So as payback BB waited until hours before the big game to let Butler know that Rowe would be starting in his place. Belichick is never going to live this one down from Pats fans. Priceless.
Btw Butler's play wasn't as good this year but the guy was 2nd team All Pro in 2016 and a pro bowler his rookie year. He would play with a major chip on his shoulder if he came to the Jets or another AFC foe.
