Firing Tanny, but keeping Rex led to that. Should have cleaned house after 2012 to get the best GM possible and let that GM hire a coach. While Coughlin deserves credit for the Jags run this year, Caldwell's fingerprints are all over their roster.

Never drafting offense in round 1. Busting year after year in round 2. Those things will do it to you. When was the last time that the Jets drafted an offensive player who was actually exciting to watch?

we went "all in" with bad contracts and taking questionable players other teams cast off in an effort to make a run with a rookie QB. the rookie QB didn't pan out which was the big killer, on top of that cap issues and poor drafting meant leaving large holes in the roster.

What went wrong is STILL wrong: there is no coherent plan for building a winning team. Until that's fixed, we're just watching the same movie running over and over.

Firing Mr T and keeping Rex is where the Jets went wrong. They should have kept Mr T or fired both of them. The Idzik experiement accomplished nothing

Horrible player evaluation in the draft.
Constantly drafting defense first and treating offense as an afterthought.
The “Band aid” approach. Overpaying players that are past their prime because Woody wants to make a splash.

Poor drafting obviously, the worst being drafting Geno which prevented them from taking a QB at the top of the draft for about 5 years.

Well, I wouldn't say it prevented them from drafting a QB in the top of the draft for the next 5 years?

What's really to blame here and it goes to your point is there's an unspoken rule in the NFL. If you draft a QB high, they are supposed to get at least 3 years to show something. The, and only then, is it allowed for you to cut bait and move on. I say that's nonsense. When millions of dollars and the fans hard earned money is at stake, I think there should be a stronger emphasis on making the team better on a faster curve. Enough of this thorough look at guys like hack? Everyone knows he's garbage. He should have been cut long ago. A mistake is a mistake. I do not like it when the GM lets his ego get in the way of winning football games. We all make mistakes, the GM should be more forth coming about those mistakes and just move on for the fans and the players who work so hard to try and win..........

    - Lack of quality depth. Because injuries happen and competition challenges the starters and helps develop reserves. Rex even identified this problem on Hard Knocks. He said something like, "I know our ones are good, we just need our other guys to start stepping up."

    - Lousy quarterback drafting and development. I honestly think Sanchez could have been a serviceable NFL qb if he continued to develop. Yeah yeah, not just a Jets problem. On the up-side - from a quantity standpoint, we're really good at drafting qbs.

    - God hates me.

The problem started by going all in on Mark Nacho Sanchez. He hindered the team in 09-10, and his true colors showed from then till now. He was a bust, and has been a bust ever since. If Nacho was even able play to the level of McCown from this past season, we may have broken the title drought. Instead the team aged, just like we knew it would, crap drafting followed, and the Rex era was pushed out the door. Nacho was not ready to play in the NFL yet we had to have a FQB, and boy did we reach on this pick.
You can't say losing his WR's killed him, because Geno had worse than him. Geno's O-line was worse as well. So was his offensive coordinator. He had a much worse chance of developing than Nacho.

Maybe we will get lucky and sign Nacho this off season. That way the fanboys can be happy.
