right now, i think his main focus is what to do with wilk. I don't see it as a Richardson situation where he'll hold onto him as bait during the draft and wind up trading him late. I get the feeling they want him gone sooner then later. The big issue is his contract and play. He's going to be extremely hard to trade. I think he's trying to get something in return but ultimately will be released at the start of free agency and likely sign a 1 year prove it deal with another team (watch it be NE)

He's also likely negotiating with some of our free agents and making his list of who he wants to keep and who he is willing to let walk

Also making a list of free agents to target once free agency begins. the 1st week of free agency is hectic. Lots of teams bidding on lots of players. I'm sure he is looking into possible QBs like smith, bradford, keenum, bridgewater, taylor, and of course cousins. while keeping an eye on McCown as a fallback option. I don't see him resigning right away

He's also thinking about what to do with petty. We don't have to cut him, but is it worth it to keep him here? He's horrible but he's cheap. still it stands to reason hack will be here for sure. Plus add a veteran and a draft pick and that's 3 QBs no reason to carry 4. On the off chance he lands cousins however and then doens't draft a QB because of this, it would make sense to keep petty around over paying McCown more to be a backup

He's got a lot of work ahead of him and then after free agency he needs to build a draft board. he's likely working on that as well, but it's mostly the scouting department at this point. I wouldn't be surprised if he's studying film of draft picks right now as well, especially at the QB position and trying to figure out where he can trade in the draft to be ready

Nice analysis Solid..but opting for a FA QB would not be wise imo but of course a real possible with our FO

That's the easy way out of a QB prob instead of Mac working his butt off to grab that 3 spot in the draft from Indy

depends who it is. cousins is a proven FQB and it's rare to get the chance to get one of those. He could easily play another 8-10 years and allow us to take an impact player at 6 instead. Drafting a QB at 6 is a huge risk. most don't pan out. If i had to guess i'd say maybe at best 50% of 1st round Qbs turn out to be at least solid and probably 5% turn out to be pro-bowlers

For all the crap I give Macc, I won't deny that the job of an NFL GM is incredibly complicated. I think FJF's picture isn't too far off of reality. That said, the job becomes doable only once you have a blueprint in place, and based upon what he's done so far I don't see one. That can't really be true, but it seems that way given the draft choices he's made and the FA's he's signed. If there is a blueprint, it doesn't seem to be much more than "Reduce salaries and sign BPAs, and defense wins championships". I really hope he's got something more than that. As hard as his job is, hes going to have to really step up if he wants to keep it.

Doing his HW on the QB prospects to find out who's his guy to trade up for. And having a Plan B in place in case Plan A doesn't work. :)

    Macc is solid.

He missed on Hack for now but he liked him and didn’t think he would be there 30 plus slots later.

I like that he “went for it” over being a pussy. I like guys who go for it.

Once Bubba Gump POS is gone and we have an intelligent HC, we will be fine.

I think you need some meds. The fact thay youre somehow making the selection of Hackenberg a good thing, is amazing. I dont think there is anyone left of this board who thinks that hes worth anything and it was always a bad decision.

You know who else didnt want hack? That Bubba Gump coach you hate so much.

He had no conviction he panicked and took a qb nobody else wanted. A qb who will never start a game in this league outside of injuries. So im glad you think he has balls because that coulda been a 2nd round pick that actually amounted to something.

Mac will prove me right (happily)

Bowles will prove me right (sadly)

    No hard feelings.

I don’t take this personal and I’m not happy to declare Bowles to be an incompetent moron who was hired on factors besides intelligence.

He was hired because Cardinals had a nice run... Cardinals! Eeeeeesh
