If only Woody/Chris would have a clue they might have tossed Macc and Bowles aside and hired Tom Coughlin to run things. This article from the NY Post gives a glimpse of what we would have instead of the passionless mediocrity of Macc & Bowles: https://nypost.com/2018/01/16/what-its-like-to-watch-tom-coughlin-watch-football/ Without a clear and coherent vision from the top, this team cries out for an architect that CAN build a winning franchise. It's too late to get Coughlin, but I sure wish the Johnsons would wise up and get somebody in who knows what they're doing.
If after 18 years of screwing things up, you'd think the Johnsons would have hired a VP of Football Ops decades ago. They seem to think they can handle things and its their billion dollar toy so get used to 1 step forward, 2 steps back for the near future. No reason to hire anybody that actually KNOWS what they're doing when its cheaper to hire first timers so they can learn as they go. The suckers show up every year no matter what.
Yes when you are at for 3 years like MCC & TB & seemed to have learned nothing then you have to wonder of how much brain power each one of them has. Think about it that they were both extended based on there 3 year record. That shows the superior management talent of the NYJs including the owner
Why should they? Having a NFL franchise is like printing money and there's enough dopes that will shell out enough to make this team profitable. They don't have to field a winner, it's too much work.
Neither you or Cman are wrong. The johnsons are lukewarm in their interest & clueless in their football acumen. That’s been a horrible combination for Jets fans But there is one thing working in the fan’s favor. This fan bases level of discontent & desperation has been turned up a notch in recent years. The media has picked up on this.If things keep going south w this franchise the level of “backpage” negativity could see new heights. Why does this matter? The only thing the johnsons seem to understand is media perception & backpage fodder. If things get real ugly which they will If/when this regime flops, the johnsons will be forced to make massive changes..and not just who coaches the team or picks the players. They might even sell the team.
Ownership has no clue how to run a football organization. It was evident in 2012 when Tanny was fired, yet Rex was somehow retained causing more qualified GM candidates to avoid even interviewing with the Jets and leaving us with Idzik who blew the 2014 draft.
Funny you mention that, I remember reading here that Quinn was going to become Jets HC with Kyle Shanahan as OC before a change of plans led to Bowles.
No, no evidence on his part, but throw enough money at a guy and it can change even the staunchest mind. My main point wasn't so much missing out on Coughlin, but how much it reinforces what we DON'T have, and still need.
That’s what Dolan did with Phil Jackson, if you have to throw ridiculous money at someone to take a job you are probably getting their knowledge but not their heart and soul. But my main point is, there are enough things to be pissed about that actually has happened that I don’t think we need to go making up hypothetical scenarios to get worked up about.
Pathetic and depressing how good ideas like a VP for Football Op go under the rug with Johnsons ..those sneaky no goodniks These Owners have to go OR forget the cheap price of TIX and YOU DONT GO...put them out of business imo I banged the drum for Coughlin and Chucky years ago...now look what happened The same thing that happened with Marrone, Garropolo Mahomes Quinn Holmgren..what a sh*tlist of stupid nondecisions I think Year 50 is my retirement year from this dog and pony show
So if the Jaguars suck for the next 3 years are you going to say it's all Coughlin's fault? I mean Coughlin has a pattern. 3-4 years out of the playoffs, then 1 year in. Looks like that trend is continuing. People are grasping at straws like crazy lately, saying the Jets should have done X or should have done Y, but it's all irrelevant guess work. What matters is how we move forward from here. Besides, ask Champ. He'll tell you that if the Jaguars don't win the super bowl this year, the season is a failure.
