This is exactly how I feel. IF and when we get good, the difference in a win and loss becomes magnified and comes down to going for it on fourth, taking the FG or punting, run or pass with a first down putting the game away and when to use a timeout. I have seen zero progress with Bowles making and managing decisions. We will never win a Super Bowl when a coach can't navigate a team through these crucial late game decisions.
In the NFL the biggest issue at the end of a game is what the officials call. You have to be kidding about this or any coaches decision making deciding games. Sometimes they get lucky sometimes they don't. The rest is talk show nonsense.
Exactly my point on the prior thread. Case in point is Atlanta in the last Super Bowl. You run the ball after the terrific first down catch and the game is yours. The percentage increases exponentially. Yet they got stupid. Also, Bellicheat completely re schemed his O & D game plan in the second half after they got trashed in the first half. Atlanta stayed pat with the same plan and squandered the lead. Good personnel is a must, but when you play the best is all about superior strategy.
The refs certainly can sway the outcome, but calling stupid plays when the game is on the line, getting too conservative or not adjusting to the opposition change in alignment are much bigger factors.
And we will likely never get shut-out (Denver was something else), because when in doubt, even if down 21 with 6 minutes to go, we always, always, take that FG, baby.
it's not rare at all in the NFL. many players refuse to comment or will outright bash their team. it's rare to hear a player praise their team. look at the giants this season, look at james harrison, look at cousins, look at pryor last off season
As a fan since 1965 they have zero that is zero difference makers on the roster at this moment say compared to the 69 NYJs with JWN,Maynard Snell etc, etc
Geez, I can't disagree more. You cant control what the refs do but you can control what decisions your team makes. It makes all the difference in the world. Its what makes Belichek and Tuna the great coaches they are. Does everything always work out, no, but that does not make the decision wrong. And using timeouts at the end of the game are something these 2 men don't make mistakes with. Our coaches from Herm. Mangini, Rex and now Bowles are horrible at it.
U have not been a NYJ fan long enough since from the 1969 onwards the NYJ policy has been to retain deadwood like Bowles & MCC for years since there usefulness to the NYJs has long past
Another post downplaying the role of coaching in the NFL. Of course, if you like the coach that seems deficient in the game strategy arena that is the position you will likely take. I guess I have to pay more attention to who the officials are rather than discuss playcallling and strategy .
Yeah, and look at the other 2000 players in the NFL who toe the company line. Your handful proves the "extremely rare" statement.
After four playoff-less seasons, he needs to go, just like Rex did. The Jets have given up on better coaches, who actually made the postseason, a lot sooner.
lmao you guys been saying this for like 2 years now. Next thing you know, a few SBs later: "Still waiting for Bowles to go to the Pit of Misery"
Yeah, can't blame ya, I feel the same way ... hopefully he proves us wrong ... I am giving him this year.
