FWIW, PFF said Petty was decent, and had about 3-4 drops from the receivers on his passes. We will see how he looks with first team reps.

Thanks for doing a decent enough job for the Jets, McCown.

Now I hope this is the end of the Josh McCown 'era'.

The O line is giving up the 3rd highest rate of sacks only behind GB and Indy. They are bottom of the league in yards per rush attempt. They routinely just let rushers in completely unblocked.

What O line have you been watching?

If true, those numbers are a bit alarming. I am just going by the eye test.

I thought the pass blocking early on looked pretty good, while the run blocking has looked bad.

But either way, the underlying point remains for my evaluation of Petty. I know what the line looked like under McCown so judging by how the line performs under Petty, we can see what impact he is having on the line.

I thought they have looked pretty much like crap so I am expecting nothing different with Petty under center. Since you thought they looked good despite being terrible at pass pro and run blocking that might taint your judgement with Petty in there.

I hope folks realize Morton will not gameplan the same way with Petty that he did with McCown. Why? Because Petty isn't a 11 year vet experienced in the WCO and hasn't practiced with the starters at all this season. Perhaps simplifying the game plan just might be a blessing in disguise for the Jets and for Petty.

it's a tough spot for Petty.
Oline has been terrible, offense isn't exactly simple, and we are out of the playoff picture.

at least there isn't any pressure on him though, as the season is shot and no one expects much.
hopefully he'll rise to the challenge.
If the dropoff from McCown isn't too significant, that would be a big positive for Petty.

This OL looks like offensive line to you? What football are you watching? Peewee?

ONE stinking spin move, and LT is beaten. Holy Jesus.

From the mouth of Todd Blowes himself: ""He's been taking notes on the sideline," Todd Bowles said. "He understands what's going to come, but it's an opportunity for him. He'll get the majority of the reps this week and he'll be well-prepared to play in a game on Sunday."

    Thanks Todd..

Does he plan on splitting reps?

Why wouldn't he get all the reps?

McCown gives them the best chance to win any given Sunday. Even with broken hand.

Now that McCowen has a broken hand and won't play for the remaining games, it's time to cut him loose. Give Petty all the reps. It's also time to look for a new HC. Bowles just never woke up to the game. Punting when behind with no chance of putting points on the board. You have to learn to take some risks and hope to succeed. Let Hack play the scout team so he gets some reps too. And if he can't cut it, drop him at the end of the year. That means we'll be down to 1 qb for 18, so the scouts and trade wire has to burn up to find maybe a FQB.

Todd Bowles confirms Jets' QB Josh McCown done for season

Jets vs. Broncos highlights | Week 14

Head coach Todd Bowles confirmed on Monday that the New York Jets will be without starting quarterback Josh McCown for the rest of the season due to the broken left hand he suffered against the Denver Broncos.

Despite the injury being to McCown’s non-throwing hand, he must undergo surgery.

“I feel sorry for Josh,” Bowles said. “He was having a good year.”

McCown was having the best season of his 16-year career. His 13 starts, 67.3 percent completion mark, 2,926 yards passing and 18 touchdowns (against nine interceptions) are all career highs.

And he was able to do it with one of the more anonymous receiving corps in the NFL.

McCown could hardly hold back tears on Sunday as he spoke with reporters.

“It’s been the best (season) because of the guys. Not numbers,” McCown said. “It’s been the best because of the guys in the locker room.”

McCown’s play wasn’t the only surprising thing about the Jets this season; while many observers looked at their offseason moves and roster and predicted two wins tops, they have won five with three to play.

Bowles added that he and McCown didn’t talk about the quarterback’s future; McCown signed a one-year, $6 million deal with New York before the season.

Without McCown, 2015 fourth-round pick Bryce Petty will start this week against the Saints in New Orleans; according to Bowles, the offense won’t change much with Petty running things. Bowles added that he’s comfortable with Christian Hackenberg, last year’s second-round pick who has yet to see game action, getting some snaps.

Petty started four games last year, completing 58.5 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and five interceptions.

New York was 1-3 in his starts.

You would have to be a horse's ass if you didn't feel any sympathy for Josh McCown. Specially after his emotional press conference dealing with a difficult lost and injury. Yes he wasn't a franchise QB but you can't say the guy doesn't have any heart. One could argue in Cleveland and New York he was never in a position to really succeed. It is to bad God didn't give Josh any more talent because he surely deserved a better fate.

This may be it for Josh and his NFL career. If so I think some of you might want to ease up on the criticism here. The guy was a true teammate, worked his ass of, and represented your team honorably. Perhaps a "thank you Josh and get better soon" would be in order. He's not your franchise QB but as a transition QB he represented the Jets admirably.
