Thomas officially converting to Fullback it seems, changing number from 97 to 44, will no longer have to report eligible on offensive snaps. I hope he still gets some run at DE also. Gotta love 2 way players, and FB's who contribute in more than one facet. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2017/10/jets_lawrence_thomas_wont_miss_this_annoyance_abou.html
I was excited about this guy last year before got hurt. As a grumpy old fart who laments the demise of the fullback position, this guy may become my player if this works out. I'm not sending back my new Maye jersey, though. I'll just have to get another one....
Bowles said he will still get time at DE if the situation arises. But it goes to show you how important Morton and the new offense views blocking. Thomas has proved to be a big blocker and with Tomlinson, who they really like...You see the Jets aren't afraid to go heavy personnel. Very nice.
They're ya go Mo, you're on the pulse of things as usual. It was nice seeing the interior guys taking it to the Jags D last game on the run blocking. The way they want to do things may be starting to take shape on O, and D. Physical on O, and aggressive and attacking on D with Adams & Co.
I wonder if that also means that Leggett is set to return. He practiced for the first time this week, although limited.
Finally a fullback, it has been long overdue, this could be some running threesome when Forte comes back.
Who needs Forté? He is burned toast. He is slow and no longer very effective. He should get no carries. Powell and McGuire should get them all imo.
Is this one of the biggest full-time fullbacks in league history? We've seen the Fridge in the backfield and offensive linemen playing the occasional snap, but a full-time fullback at 286 pounds? Have to agree also that Matt Forte taking any carries away from Powell and McGuire would be pointless and would seriously piss me off. If he rides the bench for the rest of the season it may go a little way to convincing me Bowles knows what he's doing.
I think he has to be, and I'm really excited to see what he can do as a blocker. He should be devastating on LBers and DBs.
Forte is an excellent receiver from the backfield, good in pass pro and a true leader on this team of inexperience. Still has value imo. Id like to see more two HB sets as it can be tough to defend. If we running FB and HB I'd go Powell or Maguire as the HB tho.
Yes sir! I loved when Rex had Sheldon smashing the rock in from 2 yards out. A thing of beauty and I was sorry to see it disappear. The fear on the LBers faces was priceless
Yes, I know that Forté is an excellent receiver out of the backfield, is a good blocker, and is a professional, but imo that just isn't enough any more. Powell is every bit as good a receiver as Forté and even McGuire isn't far behind in that regard. Both are quicker, faster and better runners, however. Now that we have a real Fullback and TEs who can and do block, I just don't think Forté has that much value any more. In the three games in which he has played this season, he has averaged 3.1, 5.9 and 2.7 ypc for a 4.1 ypc average in 23 carries. He has scored no TDs and has 6 receptions. Powell has averaged 7.8, 2.5, 2.2, & 3.1 ypc for a 4.8 ypc average this season in 49 carries and has 2 TDs and 9 receptions. Meanwhile, Elijah McGuire has averaged 9.3, 4.9, and 4.7 ypc in the games in which he has played, for a gawdy 6.8 ypc average this season in 23 carries. He has 1 TD and 3 receptions. I don't know how McGuire blocks or recognizes blitzes, but if he does those things well, then based on his production and potential, he should be starting or at least be backing up Powell.
The dude can actually block too. This isn't Sheldon Richardson just running straight into the line. Lawrence Thomas sealed off a couple of defensive players.
Hmm.... Is that two normal weight people put together all in one ????? Hooray for us another BEAST Mac pulling them outa the hat
Think he's still officially listed as a defensive lineman. The number change is more of a convenience to him, so he doesn't have to declare every time he gets in on offense.
Didn't he have a big carry against the Fish? Stretch run to the outside if I recall correctly, and Thomas kept his balance along the sidelines for awhile. Will see if I can find the play later. Either way, another solid UDFA.
