Why can't Darron Lee cover anyone?

I think it's the latter. He's a shitty football player.

I figured at worse, he'd be a sub package coverage specialist, who could also be sent on blitzes.
Change up the looks and keep QB's guessing.
Granted not a role I'd burn a 1st rounder on (which is why I never liked the pick). He does have the athleticism to play that role, but hasn't shown any savvy out in coverage or in zone space. I don't see any role for him currently.
He needs to be benched for the sake of the defense.

Lee just isn't an inside linebacker. He's just too small, and simply gets pancaked all day by guards and centers who outweigh him by 70-80 pounds. It's painful to watch.

Agreed. Bruce Carter isn't amazing but he's still at least a capable player on this team. Lee is just such dogshit in every aspect.

Like you said, my hope was that we could at least throw him out there on Jimmy Graham or Rob Gronkowski and he'd be able to hold his own.

He actually showed decent coverage ability against Graham but he made play after play shielding him with his body. I don't even trust Lee to let Gronk catch the ball and tackle him afterwards.

I wonder if there is any thought to giving Jenkins a crack at it. He's really a defensive end by trade and won't have lateral quickness but he will be able to take on blocks and shed them.

Anyone would be an upgrade at this point. Hey @BacktoQueens hows your block shedding ability? We might need you out there Sunday to take on Pouncey and try to tackle Ajayi...

FEAR NOT Jet fans , anyone see Bowels latest quotes defending Lee ? Also the coach said " there will be no changes on defense " " I have MY starters "--------> I can't wait for this buffoon to be shit canned ! Can you imagine the Parcells or any other reputable coaches postgame last week had someone asked him about LEE or the clown trying to field punts inside the 10 looking into the sun?

Cant cover anyone and maybe the worst inside linebacker ever against the RUN. He is not an NFL linebacker.

If McCagnan loses his job the Lee and Hackenberg picks will be the cause.

Try him at OLB. It doesn’t help that it looks like he’s been taking muscle gain tips from Robbie “Karen Carpenter” Anderson.

To be fair about this 100% I think it should be mentioned that his NFL scouting report is also very clearly exaggerated in a big way? It says that he's very quick to diagnose plays and flow to the ball? Has plus man cover talent? This is just a few of the compliments gushed about him?

Now, my question is, "Do YOU see any those features with Lee?" I sure don't.

If anything I thought Lee was another example of Jon Vilma being miscast in a 3-4 defense. It's actually worse. Lee struggles to make the simplest of plays in a 3-4. Now, Vilma was most definitely miscast in a 3-4, BUT he was still a very good player that made a lot of plays in a 3-4.

Darron Lee gets tossed around like dirty laundry. It's really becoming a full on BUST case?

What's up with all the question marks after almost every sentence?

Here is the Tightend burying Darron Lee . He's lucky he didn't get really badly hurt.( a body shouldn't get bend like that).

No argument here. But you could say it's every pick he's made with the exception of Leonard Williams. I'm not chiming in on this last draft, the jury is still out. But between 2015 and 2016, he has netted this team diddlysquat.

haha, OLB was my position, but my 40 time is probably over 6.0seconds at this point........and i'd need oxygen immediately after.

I could definitely still shed a Jace Amaro block attempt tho...could probably cover him too o_O

Exactly, it be one thing if Lee's struggles was limited to not being stout against guards and lead blockers, but it's not. When he is not getting pancaked, he is overrunning plays, biting hard on play action on obvious passing downs, getting burnt by guys he is faster than, taking poor angles, missing tackles...etc...etc. The 4-3 might spare him from having to take on blockers head on but it will not hide his many deficiencies. He can't cover so safety is not an option. The guy is an athlete not a football player. His instincts are terrible.

He's in his 2nd damn year, y'all are ridiculous thinking he's toast. And he's young. Why don't instead you help him and surround with BETTER freaking players? He's smallish so you try to HELP him with a big ass NT in the meantime...there's no NT on this roster...this isn't even a decent 3-4 type roster...and yes Lee maybe more of a 4-3 MLB or weakside LB in the end but it's more coaching and roster construction then saying Lee is trash....I can't stand some of you Jet fans. Half of you probably would have dumped Jared Goff after his first season. Guess what the Rams did? After he didn't start the season and when he finally got time he was awful..you know what they did? They went out and STUCK with him. improved the offensive line continuity, added Sammy Watkins to give him a true #1 threat, committed to the run game (and Todd Gurley), went out and got one of the best offensive young minds in football to run the team. That's what you do. Half of you would have dumped Goff just like you would do any young kid that doesn't become Odell Beckham in their first damn year. /endrant.

Only Toilet Bowles would a play a kid the size of a safety at ILB. Only an idiot like Mac would draft one.

Look at every good 3-4 defense in the last 10 years. All have ILBs at 240-250.

What a bunch of fucking morons.

As far as I'm concerned, Macc has only made one real mistake so far. He didn't resign Revis and convert him to safety. But it's ok because he can make up for it with Lee. I think this kid has huge upside for us as a kicker, maybe even as a long snapper.

Shit, even if you converted him to head coach I'll bet he'd be well worth that first round pick.

just for fun, decided to see who was picked around that time

fuller - decent WR held back by bad QB
    doctson - meh wr
    treadwell - med wr
    jackson 3, meh cb
    burns, meh cb
lynch - QB bust so far
    clark - meh DT

so there is 7 players taken after lee. none are impressive really. even the 2nd round and rst of the 1st round is pretty meh. it was just a shitty draft. I guess in hindsight maybe having fuller, keeping harris and still getting davis might have been better because of our WR issues, but not like we missed out on much and not like lee is any worse then anyone else we could have taken

To be objective you really have to assess the teams they went to and how they were used. On another team they might be All Pro.
