The media and most of the coaching staff have been "realistically" writing Petty off since he was drafted. Now he looks like the best QB on the roster. Dunno about you but I'd rather watch Petty than a 38 year old backup.
Why do I get the feeling Macc isn't exactly thrilled to hear that Petty's ACL wasn't shredded after all.
He is probably hitting the devil dogs and twinkies hard right now. Dumb bastard... Petty is the only QB on this roster that can save his job.
Mac has to be happy about Petty still being available for the season. The Jets QB situation is bad at the moment but it could go to catastrophic very easily if McCown got hurt and he's had some issues over the years. If Petty was actually seriously injured the Jets would be reaching out to QB's trying to figure out if they were signing somebody as an insurance policy or not.
The problem is that Petty probably needs to sit for the next week or so, and McCown will need to get ALL the reps in order to get ready for the season. Probably the best we can hope for is that once Petty is ok to practice again, they give him 1/3 to 1/2 the reps with the starters, and by the time McCown gets injured, the OL will have gelled and be playing as well as it can, and at least give Petty a chance to do something and to stay healthy. I'm almost at the point of agreeing with you that the Jets should just cut him or trade him and give him a fair chance with another team since the Jets don't seem to appreciate or respect him.
I would too if our OL was worth a darn. Right now, I like Petty better than the Jets and don't want to see him get killed or suffer a career-ending injury because Mac's too stupid to fix the OL. Like cman, I'd rather see him traded to a team that will appreciate and respect him. The Jets don't deserve him.
Don't get me wrong, I'd rather see Petty start over McCown. But McCown seems to be all but officially crowned the week 1 starter even before last night, and the injury, even if minor, has to hurt Petty's chances.
The guys doing the crowning (the media) have less credibility than most of the posters on this board.
Wow that's great news! My plan would be to rest Petty next week, maybe let McCown get a series or two and play Hack the rest of the way. I'd let McCown open the season as starter with Petty backing up and Hack as third. It's clear that Hack isn't there yet (highly doubt he ever will be), but he's been outplayed by Petty and hasn't earned the #2 job.
Mac should be happy that one of his draft picks at the QB position is showing promise. It's a perfect approach to copying Ron Wolf philosophy, draft a QB in the later rounds and try to developed them, at this point, I would let Petty play, Mcown should be backup and make Hack the 3rd stringer. Next year they can draft a LT with top 5 pick and keep on building the offensive side of the team. Hack has one more year under his belt with Petty as starter, Hack is back up and draft another developmental QB in the 4th next year.
Anyone getting their leg rolled on by a 300 lb man is injury prone. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Hes had a lot of injuries in his short career, so that's kinda besides the point. Its a shame tho. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Brett Favre. Thank the universe that I get to drag this out on occasion. I love when that happens. "He invited me into the house for a little bit. There he was with his tight little shorts, no shirt and his little red hat. He was doing some farming or something. He was covered in dirt. It was awesome." - J.P. Losman
Phew, good news. Now let's also remember he was playing against back ups. I'm excited to see him play with one's, but let's temper our expectations.
