This is why this team never advances. On display yesterday was what our future is. Hackenberg looking as clueless as ever against a competent defense. The need to get a franchise QB out of the next draft is more apparent than ever but we will struggle to get one because our defense is good enough to win a game on it's own against a bad offense which we will eventually play against and McCown is not totally incompetent so he might pull one or two out as well. This will probably be enough for us to miss out on Darnold, Allen, and Rosen. This is what kept the Jets getting Winston and Marriotta and this is what keeps us starving for leadership where it will make a difference, in a QB. If this team really wants to look to the future and change the direction of this franchise, we don't waste another season starting a QB that instead of changing the future, only prolongs it. Sit McCown and Start Petty or Hack. Take your lumps now and change the direction of this wretched team.
Lions had the NFL's 13th ranked D last year and could end up top 10 this year. It's more than just competent it's good. He also had for some reason like 2 or three backups "protecting" him. Our wideouts got no separation. Lions were in the backfield as soon as the ball was snapped Not equipping a guy for success Fyi we will not be so good as to miss out on Rosen, Darnold, AND Allen. We'll definitely get one.
Guys, we just need a franchise QB! Why didn't we or the Jets coaching staff think of this? The OP is such a genius.
I hope that Mac reads this. Up until this post, he didn't even realize that we need a franchise QB. OP is a genius!
Ok boys, have a nice life. If any of you guys that are so good at spotting genius had comprehension skills, you might have realized this post is not about getting a QB, it's about what is preventing us from that, but you don't need me to tell you that, right?
So your first post had nothing to do with trying out young guys in hoping they would turn out to be franchise QBs?
This game is basically what most of our games are going to look like this season. Low scoring offensive ineptitude. By the way, brotha. Have some tough skin around here. Sarcasm comes with the territory of making somewhat obvious accusations about this team.
It's easy to say start Hackenberg or Petty, but if they are as bad as they appear to be what is the point? I'm really not worried about the development of two QBs who will likely be off the roster in 1-2 years. I'd rather go with a guy like McCown who at least can operate an NFL offense, and give us a better look at some of the young players on offense.
My problem is you have guys like Dak, Watson, Mahomes who, while they haven't proven to be franchise QBs or anything, def look like they belong on the field. Meanwhile we've sunk two years into taking the tiniest baby steps with Hack. These other kids just get thrown out there.
The point is we know what we got and can go from there. I'm tired of the "Hackenberg can't draw a football from memory" type headlines. Can he (or petty) play or na? I'm not saying you gotta make him start all season but these games don't matter take off the cuffs already
Dallas didn't have a choice. He was the backup and Romo got hurt. Watson is behind Savage on the depth chart. And Mahomes is behind Alex Smith.
You can't say last week he didn't look like he didn't belong on the field. He definitely did vs Tennessee. Plus he was victimized by 3 drops on perfect throws. Regarding those 3, they entered the league with better franchises, with better weapons, with better coaches. Hack has a ton of talent and is a smart kid, but heck he came here being totally battered in Penn State too. Running for his life, getting hit every throw. We knew he was a project and this would take time
You need a QB who can function in an NFL offense. I think it's safe to say that the coaches have probably seen enough of Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty in practice to know whether or not they can play. Last night was a great example. The oline and WR's looked awful, but it's possible they were just saddled with a QB running things who didn't know what he was doing. At least with McCown he could make the right reads and blitz pickups, and we could get a better gauge as to whether or not any of these WRs, OL, and HB's can play.
I wouldn't write off Lynch quite yet. He's with a very good franchise that actually knows how to run a QB competition in camp. If Sanchez, Lynch, and Siemian were battling for a job under Bowles or Ryan do you honestly think Siemian would have a chance?
I didn't say they're starting QBs or franchise QBs. Their teams aren't treating them like they don't know how to play football. They put them out there and let them play. The way we treat Hack you wouldn't know he played the game before we drafted him
So just because he's with a good franchise automatically equates to him becoming a good player? Siemian will be the starter over in Denver. I think the Jets could've had a better showing if they had a better offensive line out there, that needs to get fixed if you want a young QB out there.
