I think Moore is a quality backup, not sure if I would want to ride with him for a full season but either way, they still need a second QB. The 2 kids behind Moore make Hack and Petty look like Rodgers and Brady.

Your right about having surgery last season , however he would not have been ready to start camp and would have missed at least the first few games. The Dolphins should have Drafted a QB knowing Tannehill's knee was not sound. If his Knee recovers , he could still be on the Dolphins Roster next season. The dead money would still be significant. Over $10 million if not more.

Less than 5M if this is correct. 2.3 if they wait until June 1st.

I don't think that is taking into account his guaranteed money if injured. There is an additional $5.25 million that would be added to those figures.

He had $23.5M guaranteed for injury, that is all paid already, $5.525M of his 2018 salary does guarantee on the 5th day of the league year though and he would unlikely be medically cleared by then so that would be on the books.

Right , we were talking about 2018.
His cap hit will include the $5.25 million, his excellerate signing bonus, and a roster bonus.
I doubt the Dolphins release him if he is healthy though. They will enter the season with no QB under contract ( Moore ,Cutler , and Fales are free Agents) very little cap space. Roughly ,$7 million , and Landry is due a big payday. They won't have the money to buy Cousins. If Cutler plays like he did under Gase in 15 , he is going to cost much more.

I was talking about 2018 also, there is no guaranteed salary left. If he is there 5 days into the league year his cap hit would be $7.825M if cut pre June 1st, $10.125M is cut post June 1st.
But if he gets healthy quick and they cut him before the 5th day of the league year he would only count $4.6M dead money against the cap for his pro rated signing bonus. If they cut him before June 1st but designated him a post June 1st cut he would count $2.3M in 2018 and $2.3M in 2019.

He has $5.25 million guaranteed for injury next season. He will not be ready to pass a physical before the beginning of the league year. That's for certain. OTC does not account for the injury guarantee but his contract does

    He wasn't coming back.

But he somehow conned Miami into giving him eight figures and a theft of that magnitude proved too much for him to resist.
