We all know the narrative: tank, doesn't make sense to win 5-8 games, blah blah blah.. While I agree with that I also don't want to go 0-16 and I don't get the feeling anyone else does either. So which games do you want to win? Get me a win against the pats and I'll let this season slide
If one more poster mentions the Jets tanking, they should get permanently banned. Either some of you don't know what tanking is, or you can't read and haven't been paying attention. The Jets aren't tanking, so stop that damn nonsense!
If the Jets were to go 2-14, I'd take week 1 vs buffalo and week 3 vs miami. That way the season would be interesting for 5 to 6 weeks as opposed to 0 if they lose first 3 games.
Week 1 @ Buffalo (since my dumbass is driving up there) Week 3 vs. Miami Week 6 vs. New England (this is a hope/dream more than anything else. if we lose by less than 14, it's a W) Would make for an interesting start to the season instead of going straight into the bottom of the division/AFC/NFL.
You’re arguing semantics. This team was built to lose, plain and simple. Anything less than the top pick this year is an utter disaster.
lol true.. we're not technically tanking, the young guys are going to fight their asses off... but we for sure purposely & strategically set ourselves up for a losing season.
Haha Im with you man, driving up to Buffalo too. It'll be a good time regardless, its fun up in Buffalo, good football environment and can't be worse than the crushing week 17 loss I went to last time.
Went up their last year and doing it again this year as well. Hit the casino the night before the game was fun. Pearle Street Pub in downtown Buffalo near the minor league baseball stadium was a good place to go. Wings and beer was all I needed there. I don't expect a win this year but the environment in that stadium is really good. Their fans didn't take losing to us that well as we were getting cursed at leaving the stadium. Good times.
I disagree. IMO it's more than just semantics. The intent this year had little to do with how many games they win or lose, but rather to get rid of older, expensive players, of players who didn't play hard, players who didn't want to be here, of players with attitude issues, and to rebuild the roster and the attitude of the team. Their primary goals are developing young players and seeing who can help them going forward, especially Hack and Petty. The sole purpose of tanking is getting the #1 pick. When a team tanks the mandate comes from above. Game plans are designed to be somewhat competitive, but lose every game. The CS makes decisions based on trying to lose rather than trying to win, or developing young talent, or ascertaining who can help them going forward. I also disagree that anything other than the top pick will be an utter disaster. As I've said in other posts, I'd rather have the top pick, and think that would be of the most benefit to the Jets in terms of speeding up the rebuild of the roster. If Hack proves that he will be their FQB and the Jets have the #2, #3, or even a top 5 pick, that will be better. The primary thing the Jets need is a QB. The main reason they would want and need the #1 pick is if neither Hack nor Petty show that they will be the team's FQB, and they need to draft the best QB prospect in the 2018 draft. If Hack or Petty develop and show that they will be the FQB, then that pressing need for the #1 pick is greatly lessened. In an ideal world, Hack or Petty would prove to be the FQB AND the Jets would still get the #1 pick, but we know this world isn't ideal, especially as it concerns the Jets. Our defense is basically set. We have some pieces on offense. If we discover that we have our QB and a number of our young players develop this season, we would be in pretty good shape going into the 2018 draft.
The game against the Jags, since I'll be there. But then again I'm not so sure. I've gone to a game a season with my father the past four years in a row. Steelers, Broncos, Eagles, Seahawks in that order. All losses. I'm 0-4 at MetLife. If they lose this year to the Jags I'll call it a tradition.
