First of all I think it would be a joke to honor Darrelle in the ring on honor given his history here. He basically took Woody to the woodshed twice in his career. Considering the fact that Idzik gave #24 to a no name corner after he left, I fail to see how his number is now off limits after a disappointing two year re-acquisition. That being said don't you find it funny that the main reason an NFL team won't touch him is because they don't want to pay him 6M? He's guaranteed 6M from the Jets and if he signs for less than that he loses $$.
He didn't leave, he was traded. He loses absolutely nothing by signing for less than $6M except his ego might be bruised. I couldn't give a shit about the number.
I know people will always hate on Revis, but at the end of the day he is one of the best to EVER wear the Jets jersey. When I say ever, I mean the most talented to dominate his position. You also have to respect his business acumen. He demanded big $ and always got his way. Go watch his 09 highlights- it'll change your mind. And no, I am not a Revis lover- I roots for the Jets before any player- but be a little logical.
Business acumen my ass. He was and is a greedy bastard. Fuck him. He doesn't belong in the ring of honor. I'd give the #24 to the worst player every year in camp.
If he signs for 4 million a year he still gets 6M but he's essentially playing for free. He needs to make more than 6M to make 1M
He supposedly showed up 20 lbs overweight last year. Thanks for the effort dickhead. We should let a practice squad player wear 24.
Least you forget about Mark Gastineau. Dude hated by all his teammates and (unlike Revis) did actually quit. 7 games into the '88 season. If he's in the ring of honor, Revis gets in. No brainer.
You said he loses money by signing with another team for under $6M which is completely wrong. He also enhances his chances of being on another team next year if he plays this year so $3M from new team in 2017, plus $3M from Jets, plus $3M from new team next year is more than not signing and likely not playing again.
True but if he doesn't play this year because of making less than $6M then next year is almost absolutely out of the question. He may play this year and somewhat redeem himself enough to get another 1 year contract next year.
Meh. Gastineau played his entire career as a Jet and was an integral part of the Sack Exchange, which is the only other noteworthy thing that has happened in franchise history. I'm sure he was a massive dick, but he hung them up when he didn't feel like playing anymore. Revis, well, didn't.
The ring of honor is for hunger. Sign Revis as a wedge-buster on the suicide squad for all I care but he's getting his # retired and and going into that stupid, dallas cowboy-copied, "whocares?" ROH. "Beloved?" . Where's Dennis Byrd? Leon Hess is in the ring of honor. . Leon "the Shea bathrooms are filthy, I'm moving to Giants Stadium" Hess. .
Gastineau didn't go to New England and win a super bowl. I know idzik deserves some blame there, but that optic alone should keep him out of the ring. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If Claiborne stays healthy and locks up every receiver, we'll resign him and he can have 24 the next year. Deal?
Greedy- yes but you can't say you wouldn't be in that situation. The NFL is a business- a player has a short life span and must capitalize on every opportunity to cash out. Fans don't like it- I agree, but fans aren't getting paid by the NFL.
