5 years for125 million dollars. Wow That's a lot of coin , and the price you pay when you hit on a franchise Qb.

little early to be giving him that kind of money ain't it?? hopefully it locks up their cap and allows our Jets to throw a truckload of cash at Khalil Mack in a couple years.

What a draft that was for the Raiders in 2014. Best defensive player in the game in the 1st round, franchise QB in round 2, elite run blocking guard in round 3, and starting nose tackle in round 4. Meanwhile our Jets had 97 draft picks that year under Idzik and every single one of them is gone already except Enunwa.

Derek Carr contract up after this year. He was a second round draft choice so there is no fifth year option. I wish Macc was more proactive , by signing Carr earlier they probably saved some money.( watch the money behind this deal for lesser Qbs).

Reggie Mckenize seems to have a pretty good handle on the salary cap, as they should easily be able to keep their core players.

It's not all guaranteed money. Out of the $125m, only $40m is guaranteed. He did get a cool $12.5m signing bonus.

Raiders better win fast. Nobody is worth $25M a year, not if you want to compete at the highest levels.

The Seahawks were 36-12 with 2 Super Bowl appearances and a win before they paid Wilson and are 20-11-1 since then. That they also had to pay Richard Sherman at top scale didn't help.

My buddy and I have a personal Raiders Jets rivalry so I probably have more of a reason to see them lose than most people on this board. With that said, they have an extremely keen eye for talent within their scouting department. They have young talent in a lot of key areas. Nevertheless, they still have questions in the secondary and play against a lot of good passing offenses this year. We will see how they keep up with a tougher schedule. Maybe I'm just sour grapes right now that our roster is literally in shambles for the next year or two...

This game is becoming messed up. Any time you hit on a good player he demands and gets a ridiculous amount of money so you have to fill the bulk of your roster with vet minimum JAGs. It's becoming impossible to build anything because by the time your third or fourth cohort of players are slotting into place, you're losing your first cohort to dumb teams with billions in cap space.

Then again you could always make your franchise QB the 20th highest paid for 2017, but let his company move into your stadium and do work for you and make payments to his company which are not counted toward the salary cap. Makes for lots of extra cap room.

My friend abig Raider fan too, and Jmo their problem isn't their secondary. Jack Delrio ( the real dc) just wasn't playing to his cb's strengths. Sean Smith and Dave Amerson are two big physical Cb's who to be effective have to play man to man . ( jam Wr's at line of scrimmage) To play both in off coverage was pretty dumb. Both can be beat deep by smaller faster cb's . That where Conley comes in and will be the CB ask to pick up these type of Wr. The Raiders hired J Pagano( ex Chargers DC) whose going to do wonders for that secondary.( will disguise their coverages more)

Also They had major trouble covering the Te. That where Obi Melifonwu 6'4 220 comes in and Keith McGill 6'3 215 will get that responsibility. The Raiders pass defense should be very good this year. Pass rush will be a lot better , and have a lot more options in the secondary now.

The only real question is at MLB for the Raiders. They have a lot of young inexperience guys( C James, Ben Heeney, and Marquel Lee) . One of those guys going to have to step up or they are going to have to sign a proven veteran MLB that gets cut.
There defense just needs to be average, because their offense will be one of the best .( improved that offense a lot from last year).

No say what you want about Reggie Mckenize( Raiders GM) but he understands the salary cap as well as anyone. They set those contracts up that they are going to be able to keep all their core players.( Carr. Gabe Jackson, K Mack, Amari Cooper).
Sure they will lose some talent like Mario Edwards Jr( very talented De/ DT) but they keep adding young talent to eventually replace those losses.( not to mention get compensatory picks for the players they let go They supposedly are in line for 4 extra compensatory picks next year.( those picks have way of replenishing the roster).
Unfortunately the Raiders will be around for awhile. ( this team setup for the long haul)

The Raiders qualify for 4 picks but so do 3 other teams. The Packers and Dallas have much earlier picks , not sure about the Cardinals. There are only 32 picks awarded so the raiders will likely only receive two compensatory picks at best, a 5th round pick for Menelik Watson and possibly a 6th. for Latavius Murray if Dalvin Cook doesn't take too many carries from him
    Still better than nothing.

So you can get a franchise QB in second round? ;)

They still have Connor Cook as their backup, they will probably develop him then trade him to a QB hungry team and get additional draft picks.

Carr has done great with that team and with additional defensive pieces, they should be good for a while.

Bolded is priceless, I still blame scouts and Rex for those picks, whoever put that board together simply drafted on Rex needs and definitely not BPA.

Jets were still passing on good players in the 3rd and 4th rounds...:(

The most any team can get is four compensatory picks. The guy from overthecap whose pretty good at guessing compensation picks over the year, say the Raiders will get four picks. ( again not my work but that guy has track record
    https://overthecap.com/2018-compensatory-draft-picks-update-592017/

Let's see how accurate he was this year.

Sure ideally every team would like to develope a Qb to trade down the road ( that position you can make a killing). There is no guarantee Cook will ever show enough to get anything.( that is up in the air)

What's not up in the air is that the Raiders have a very talented roster now, and every team will be watching their cut list. Last cut down day it wouldn't be surprising if they were able to move Austin Howard( a lot of teams can use offense line help), a RB ( have too many or could cut top special team Taiwan Jones) , and etc for more draft picks.

Hopefully the Jets could get to that point dealing from strength.

The guy from OTC isn't pretty good at guessing compensation picks , he is very good. He had 46 projected picks early this week though and while the most a team can get, only 32 picks are awarded. Most 7 the round picks end up eliminated as a result.
The link you posted I'd actually an update to the earlier post.
I don't see Stacy McGee, or Malcom Smith on his final list of 32 qualified players . They were the 2 other players beside Murray and Watson to make up the 4 projected picks for the Raiders.

I would gladly pay a franchise quarterback like Carr this early in his career. You want to hit them with the large sums of cash while they're still in their prime IMO. He's done nothing but trend upward in his young career. Sky's the limit for this kid. I could see him throwing 40 touchdowns to 10 picks next year.
