I don't see a thread on this yet. Celebrating touchdowns will be accepted again. Ot is now 10 minutes. There will be 2 IR to return spots now. Roster cut down is only once now, from 90 down to 53. Also, our new oc said Forte and Powell will headline a rbbc.
Hmm, interesting on the OT. This was clearly devised to give the Jets 5 minutes less to win as opposed to 5 minutes more to blow it.
Well, took a few years, but at least the ridiculous celebration rules are dying a well-deserved death. OT...eh, whatever. We'll end up with an extra tie every year. Fuck the IR/return tweaks, the NFL needs to just have an MLB-style disabled list. Make it a minimum fof 4 weeks if you're worried about abuse.
I like the celebrations as well. I always thought those penalties were over the top. The game is supposed to be fun. I don't like 5 minutes off over time, though. That's going to mean more ties, which I can't stand. Get rid of the time limit and give the offense a 1 man advantage, or make like 7 on 7. Keep other rules about possessing the ball the same. Guarantee games end faster.
from what i understand, very few ot games go past the 10 minute mark anyway so this likely won't change much. as for you suggesting they change the way the game is played for ot, that is terrible. i would rather they just accepted ties and ended ot all together than do some gimmicky shit like that
Still not allowed to celebrate in an opponent's face. Makes sense. OT is still stupid. Just switch to college rules. Those actually make sense. Fine with the IR change. Don't care about the roster change. Forte and Powell being our 1-2 isn't news.
Yeah, I second that. Or I would do the college system for ot. As for the thread title, I did it on my phone, so I thought it was the sub title part, not thread name. Oh well.
wouldn't do the college way either, if it is a problem get rid of it but don't change the way the game is played.
Usually if a game goes that late it's going to end in a tie anyway. Better off avoiding further injury.
10 minute OT is a bigger deal than is being discussed. A power running team can easily take their time and eat that up.
The NFL is doing this under the guise of player safety, so when they get sued again they can go and say look look, we did all these things...kickoffs, shortened OT, no hits to the head, defenseless receiver etc. Also perhaps they don't want any potential long OT 1pm games bleeding into the 4pm slots? Not sure if that has any sort of ratings effect or not...
How many times have people gotten injured in the last 5 minutes of OT? This is just going to be another ruled that waters down the game further, and doesn't reduce injuries in the slightest. Just like all the other offensive favoring rules they have made over the years. Ties are meaningless, they shouldn't happen, period.
Go to college rules, no more ties, still ends faster (probably). It's also not financially beneficial if players keep retiring early because they are crippled or braindead.
Noooo! No gimmicks, no place kicking "shoot outs." A full fifteen minute OT period made a tie game extremely rare, and that is its purpose. We don't need more ties that cutting five minutes off the clock will accomplish.
Designed to take 5 more minutes from the actual game but not the God damn commercials....nfl try to play a football game in between all the commercials!
