According to this report from the Jets Wire & Rich Cimini the Jets are no longer allowing the beat reporters the ability to interview newly signed players and beat reporters are not allowed to meet players on the first day of the off season program. http://jetswire.usatoday.com/2017/04/17/report-jets-limiting-media-availability-this-offseason/ I think there are quite a few decent beat reporters who cover the team but unfortunately they too will suffer as a result of some beat members who have a clear agenda. I think this policy also directly correlates to the terrible season Jets had last season which was flamed on by negative press.
I want an NY beat writers job. It appears I would get paid for retweeting Adam Schefter and copy n' pasting the same "Jets Draft History is Shit" article every year until we don't have a shit Draft.
Good. They'll rip the team to pieces regardless, so might as well limit the noise internally. Costello is already butthurt lmao. Mehta's anon sources will keep him afloat.
Basically, the Jets are trying to control the message after a down year and what's expected to be another down year. The last thing Woody or his brother wants to see on opening day are vast sections of barely occupied seats. The mission in 2017 is simply to " put a suit on a pig" and this is one way to get that done.
The Jets also don't want to hang their players out to dry. They don't want quotes the players gave in April coming back in their faces in November when the team is 1-9 or whatever. Don't let Leo Williams tell anybody the Jets are going to be good this year when they're not likely to be. It's what any player would say but why would you let a young guy say it when you know the reporter is going to come back at him with an agenda in November?
The Jets are now the Polar opposite of the Ryan Jets. No more shooting off mouths or quotes that boomerang when reality comes to visit. "I'm the best Cornerback in the NFL!" who's no longer in the league... Frankly, there's nothing for them to brag about and they should approach this year as humble as possible to get the Fanbase to buy in on the rebuild. Now if we can only get Macc to come clean and state the obvious so we all can be on the same page. TB are you listening???
As long as they are doing this within the rules of the NFL I'm fine with it. This team is going to be bad and the less distractions the better for everyone involved. For too long the Jets have been a circus and laughing stock. If this approach helps the team I'm all for it.
