Like I've said many times... This franchise doesn't have a f'n clue about Qb's. Getting drafted by the Jets is the kiss of death for any young Qb with an upside. If he's good coming out of college, within a two year span he will suck in a Jets uniform.
And if he doesnt immediately come out looking like a Manning or Brady, the Jets will jettison him. No pun intended...
I agree. I posted in another thread recently that I expect the Jets to actually win more games this year. The locker room was a mess, the team was pathetic and still won 5 games. I could see them going somewhere around (6-10) to (8-8). The defense is not that bad. The offense has a few playmakers. Just need average QB play. Unlike last year which was well below. I was just trying to explain to fans what the current plan is. Will everything go according to plan? Hard to know. Many negative fans would say with this franchise: unlikely. I try to be optimistic yet realistic.

Here's what some Jet fans are thinking.....We all can agree that the Jets are rebuilding, that was never up for debate We don't see how throwing away $6 million on old fragile trash at QB in any way helps the rebuilding process Waste of money, waste of time...and that deadspin article shits on anyone using the mentor excuse McCown is useless any way you spin it....just gets in the way of evaluating any QB with a future and gives us garbage play if he even starts...AGain what is the point?
The money sucks but you don't have to worry about the young QB's not playing... McCown is made of fine china and will be injured during preseason....If not soon after.
Bingo! And even worse. You've now armed Bowles with his QB. McCown will get the lions share of first team reps in TC and will be the week one starter. I can easily see a scenario where once McCown gets injured Petty gets put in, and gets injured in the same game, then Hack is thrown in with ZERO work with the ones. So now like Petty before him, you are evaluating Hack as a QB when he's had minimal first team practice reps. You've set him up to fail. Rinse, lather and repeat.
Sign me up for Watson. I'd love to see Hack & Watson competing. Petty will be healthy in time for TC right?
You're mistaking the opposition to spending $6 million on what? A back up? A Stop gap? Or maybe - in Bowles World - a starter who has a horrible record? Instead of going "all in" on the two QBs they have that need to find out about, and a draftee who might be a FQB. You complain that the Jets shouldn't do a "rebuild on the fly", so why use a "stop gap"? For what? Go all in. They're not going to win anyway, and they need to find their FQB, but having a vet QB will only get in the way. I'm all for full rebuild mode, so play the young guys and let's do it!

Where is the guarantee that McCown will get hurt and only play a few games? Can you read the future? What if he has a "career year" and with Bowles urging him on, he wins 5 or 6 games? Then the Jets are well out of the "Darnold Sweepstakes", and we still won;t know if Pettenberg are worth anything. Why not take the guesswork out of it and simply go with Petty, Hack, and Rookie? Then you will know FOR SURE what you have: either you've found your FQB, or you'll have lost enough games to be in the running to draft one next year.
No way he can be that stupid. Besides, I don't think McCown could stay healthy and play 16 games. See some of my other posts. Mac, Bowles and Woody have to have discussed this situation. If Bowles starts and continues to start McCown, Woody should fire him on the spot.
They would never have waited that late. Never. That makes zero sense. Having a player come in and learn the offense during TC? He would be useless. If they failed to sign a FA (and McCown would probably have signed somewhere else by then), the Jets would have drafted a QB. There's no way they would have gone into OTAs with only 2 QBs, especially with Petty possibly not being healthy.
Which dedicated QB guru was available that the Jets didn't hire? As far as I know, those guys are all employed. Perhaps the Jets are just doing the best they can to make the best out of a bad situation.
Mac is on record as saying he didn't want to do it, but felt like he had to last year. Those conditions no longer exist. Geno is a giant. Petty got some starting experience. What makes you think they will?
