Jets view Fitz as backup in 17 and 18.
6M for a backup is HIGHER than current rate of 2-4M.

The offer is more than fair

Pretty sure the Jets would prefer Fitz back but only at their price. They probably don't think of Geno as a huge drop off, it's just that they know exactly what they get with Fitz

Seems like they're perfectly fine with Geno, their actions and quotes suggest it. He might me more erratic but there's definitely a higher upside

This may be Big Mac's most important test so far as GM.

You have a team that loves Fitz, believes in him as their leader, and doesn't trust Geno. It would be disastrous for the morale of the team if doesnt return. *unless Geno surprises us all and becomes a mature leader all of a sudden, but should a win-now team with all the pieces in place make such a big gamble on the most important piece?

So here's the bottom line: It's Maccagnan's job to get his QB under center, whatever it takes; if he's the good GM we all think he is, he'll reach a deal that's fair for Fitz and the Jets. But he has to get his team leader back under center....don't bother us with the details, as fans we don't need to know the dollars and cents, we just want our legit contender to return intact (and better than last year with Darron Lee, Matt Forte, and other additions).

No we don't. We just know what some of you impatient posters think. You're ridiculous. Bowles just said yesterday that he thinks that Geno can be a good starter, but he has to prove it. If Maccagnan didn't believe in Geno, Fitz would have already been signed. They need a veteran QB anyway, even if Geno starts. There's a comfort level with Fitz and the players like him. That's a big part of the reason they haven't told Fitz to take a hike. It sounds also as if Geno might have a chance to unseat Fitz if he does sign. Just because Geno struggled badly his first two seasons in an entirely different offense with an entirely different and incompetent CS, doesn't mean that he can't play. They'd have been foolish not to draft another QB or two since then, but that doesn't mean that they've given up on Geno yet.

You don't know what they're doing so quit pretending that you do. Get over yourself.

The jets have Geno, and two other QBs who The current FO drafted in the last 2 years. They don't need a backup QB. They have 3. They need a starter.

I think Geno is the only one I'd even trust as the backup. Petty/Hackenberg being one snap away from starting is pretty terrifying.

My guess is they either bring back Fitz or they go out and get Foles or McCown to be a more competent backup in the case Geno sucks/gets hurt.

They're not offering Fitz 12+mil to be the back-up. If he signs, he's starting. If they thought Geno was ready, they wouldn't offer Fitz 12+mill.

This ain't hard shit to figure out.

They're not sure about Geno, and Fitz is well liked and led the offense efficiently last year. THAT's why they still are offering Fitz the money.

    Here's MacCagnan's master plan:

Fitz signs, starts, and plays well for the next 2-3 yrs, and either Petty or Hack become ready to assume bu roll in 2017 (the Petty/Hack bu roll is critical b/c Mac won't want to re-sign Geno to a new offer).

2018/19, turn over the keys to Petty/Hack (or Hack/Petty), with one starting and one playing BU.

    A few unknowns:

Somewhere in there we'll be hiring a new OC.

Somewhere in there we may have a shot at trading for a legit QB. Would Mac do it?

Somewhere in there we may have a shot at drafting yet another promising QB. Would Mac burn another high pic on a QB if the Petty/Hack miracle hasn't happened yet?

I'm not basing anything on "reported" numbers. I'm basing my opinion on actual quotes from within the Jets organization that not only do they want Fitzpatrick back but there was no hurry to get a deal done; they just want him in training camp. Your thought that the deal would already be done is not based on what the Jets have said. Things may change next week.

One thing that IS certain for the 2016 season is our very own Mark Sanchez, yes, the guy 90% of TGG wanted GONE, will be leading the Denver Broncos into contention for another SB ring while we sit here wondering if 4 yrs has been long enough for Geno to mature.

Relax Sancho boy. He's got to beat out some guy named semen first. Also denver hasn't played a game yet so I wouldn't say they are SB contenders.

I wouldn't trade our QB situation with theirs that's for sure

If they wanted to find out about Geno so badly he'd be playing in the walk year of his contract instead of them offering $12 million to Fitz and Brandon Marshall would have put the muzzle on by now. Not to mention that again, they drafted QB's in back to back years, one with a fairly high pick.

Of course as usual you default to being insulting when you have no real argument left. The only one that needs to get over themselves is you, you have no more idea what they're 'thinking' than anyone else. However actions speak louder than words and their actions say Geno's not their future. The only reason Fitz isn't signed is the Jets aren't committed to him being the starter beyond this year (nor should they be with his age and limited skillset), while he wants a real two or three-year deal for starter's money.

We already have our future OC. He's the QB coach. Unless the coach gets fired.

And he might be 6-10 or lose his job by Week 5. Sanchez was literally their third choice after Osweiler and Kaepernick but Elway didn't want to pay through the nose for a stopgap, he'd rather develop his own QB for longer-term.

Geno's maturity questions also have to do with more than just his amount of time spent in the NFL after the way he lost his job last year and with the infamous team meeting snafu in San Diego two years ago...

Point is, Denver fans are fully expecting a repeat SB ring with cast off QB Mark Sanchez, while Jets fans are fully expecting a 6-10 season. No fair!

I seriously doubt they're 'fully expecting' a repeat, in fact I'm sure they're happy as pigs in shit over winning their third SB while we're still looking to get to another one. If they're expecting anything it's because of Von Miller, not freaking Mark Sanchez.
