I guess oxygen is the only thing that we won't be charged for in the future.

That guy may have been one of the biggest douchenozzles on the face of the earth and one of the reasons I left that site (among the mass of mindless rah-rah folks)
Thankfully his appearance here was brief as his "look at me" bullshit was not well received

Indeed it's a scam. Assuming the car is paid in full by the owner who's on the title, directing said owner to a designated service center would bring up restraint of trade arguments and in this case economic protectionism which is a violation of the Commerce Clause contained in the Constitution. Additionally, this also brings to mind similarly-related municipal solid waste/recycling "flow control" cases.

Bit of a reach by the auto industry imho that reeks of avarice under the guise of for-the-public-good.

Think back to when we were kids. If someone had told me people would willingly PAY for water I would have called them crazy.

It's like a trillion dollar industry.

Remember in Spaceballs when Mel Brooks opens the can of Perrier Oxygen, it's not that far off man.

With all the water I drank from garden hoses as a kid, I should be dead already, or so I hear.

I hear ya, playing stick ball in the street during the summer if a fire hydrant was on a bit we would take a drink there. Probably why I never get sick from anything now after building up a resistance.

After ball (when 'business' was quiet) the local firehouse would let us get a drink from one of the outdoor spigots on the side.

For the most part it all started with the catalytic converter.
Not the Auto company, but the Insurance and Prosecutorial agencies.
