Like most Jet fans, the second we went up 21-3, I immediately began wondering just how quickly it would all fall apart. Granted I was not paying that close attention while pacing around the room, but it seemed to me that it the seams started coming apart - defensively at least - once Milliner replaced Walls on J. Nelson. Is this correct? If so, I seem to remember the very same thing happening a few times last year as well. Do you think there is a correlation here, or Jordy was bound to go off?
Totally agree. Not sure why Milliner had to go in there when they were holding their own. If we were getting lit up in the passing game, that would be another story. It seems like they prepared this week as if Milliner would get a very limited role and then just threw him in there without a game plan. Needless to say, something was very off when that happened.
Nelson made some plays on Walls as well. Milliner wasn't ready to face Nelson after missing a month of practice. Walls provided more stability. Not sure what Rex was thinking.
Usually we are a good 2nd half team, so I would have to disagree in regards to in-game decisions. This was just a poor decision.
time management, when to call TO-when not to, when to challenge or not, single man coverages for Cro last year when he couldn't walk.....theres tons of examples. Do you really believe Rex is a good game day coach?
I think he's done more good then bad in regards to game day adjustments. He used to be bad his first year but he's improved each year he's been here.
When Milliner came in (after Walls got beaten a number of times) he made some solid defensive plays. Then I think the Packers decided to really test his ankle with that first double move and they realized that the rookie safety was lined up too far away to make a difference, so they tried it again and it resulted in an 80 yard play. Jordy Nelson racked up more than half of his yardage and a touchdown against a high ankle sprain that never should have been on the field... ... but Pryor has a lot to learn about single safety coverage in the NFL.
Its funny we keep saying how defensive backs need time to develop yet guys like Fuller make an impact week 2
He is a piss poor head coach but you can't convince the Rexophiles of this. His keeping Sanchez in after the butt fumble in 2012 with a shot to make the playoffs speaks volumes of his ineptitude as a HC. But the saga has to play out and it will.
He was the 14th overall pick. We picked 18th. Must be great to learn from the great Peanut Tillman though. Sort of how Milliner learned from Ed Reed last season. Can we bring Reed back?
We took Dee at number 9 not to mention the Bears took Jeffery right after we took Hill sure its easy to look back now but hey after all we are the Jets
I think the wall that stood out was the difference in Smith before and after the interception. During which he got hit. Before he was 10 fo 14. After, not so good. I count six for 19, and there were also some sacks. What had looked like a pretty good day for Smith turned bad. And it's not like Marty was calling anything obviously to Smith's detriment. Still mostly shotgun sets. Sure Decker going out hurt Smith, but that wass only part of the problem. Smith looked more tentative and inaccurate after the Int. I think that was a big factor in the loss.
In fairness to Smith, the OL was not merely Winters playing bad. Mangold was very good in pass protection, but the others all had their breakdowns. Still, I agree Smith does not handle adversity well.
I disagree to an extent. Rex usually adjusts our 2nd half defense . But yesterday it seemed the whole CS was in disarray!
I agree about Pryor. That 80 yard TD was on Pryor he got over there to late and it seem Milliner was expecting safety help.
