This is true, Cortland is definitely a nice school. It has good facilities suited for a NFL training camp.

Cortland is perfect. I come from Chicago every year. Good to get away from that congestion. No headaches and can park any where you go. Players are out on the town every night and easy to get autographs and photo's.

At first I had suspicions this was written by a fat lazy reporter who wanted to publicly whine about having to drive upstate.

    Then I saw him:

    Yeah it's not suspicion anymore...

I think the Jets are doing a smart thing in having the camp in Cortland for the reasons listed above as well as a way to cultivate a new fan base. The NY/NJ area fans have great access to the team during the regular season. How many new fans they are potentially gaining having training camp upstate could potentially equal a nice boost in merchandise sales as well as an additional economic boost during the regular season when these new fans travel downstate during the regular season.

That's not my experience, but I concede I don't live there. They get the Eagles games on the local channels, and Philly is less than an hour's drive.

Yea, we do get Philly games and Philly is closer. But why have it in upstate NY? That's Buffalo's territory, an AFC East rival.

Hofstra was fan friendly, plenty of parking, Jetsfest everyday, Modell's tent, walked over to the Netherlands cafeteria with my sons and got any autograph you wanted everyday, have hundreds of pictures of Jet players with my kids...

I'm sorry, bringing the Jets training facilities home to me is bringing them back to L.I., Hofstra.

Agreed. I'm currently here in Cortland currently and it's the same as with the previous years. Nice facility, not crazy trying to park, very friendly locals and fan-friendly staff, etc. And, side trips to Syracuse (30 minutes) and Ithaca (Cornell, Lake Cayuga, 20 minutes) are traffic jam-free fairly close as a sights/eats option (e.g. Dinosaur BBQ in 'Cuse).

And in Cortland there's Doug's Fish Fry and a great little Lebanese joint Pita Gormet on Main St.

Cortland: distraction-free…then bring the big boys out of the woodwork to hook up with the local (NY/NJ) fan base. I'm more concerned with them getting their business squared away first.

Put a sock in it Schwartz.

Keep it in Cortland for the reasons given. Being away from the City allows for more focus.

agreed! Cortland is ideal for those jet fans outside of metro new York city. the team already spends over 95% of the time in metro new York city, so it is not like the fans there have no chance to see them in person. leave well enough alone!

a lot of people upstate want them to move far, far away.
there are a lot of jets, browns, steelers, and giants fans who complain about the local media ramming the bills and sabres down everyone's throats. given the expected sale of the bills for over 1 billion dollars, there is no way that team can remain in buffalo and make payments on a loan for purchase. sooner or later , it is going to move.
the only guy with enough money who might keep it there is pegula. and, those who secretly want to buy it so they can move it in 2019 to a much bigger market, aka real major-league area, will out-bid pegula, the penalty of $400 million for moving before that is easily recovered by the rise in value as soon as it moves to a market with population and incomes to support it, without the cheapest ticket prices in the league. despite that, they still can't sell out every game.
btw, your new York state taxpayer funds are subsidizing the bills ever since the 1990s. they get over $4 million every year just in funds for ' operating capital'. that does not count the state tax dollars spent on renovations.
meanwhile, Nassau county lost an nba team and an nhl team and Albany did not lift a finger to help. chew on that, long island fans!

A couple of points. First, I grew up on LI and went to many practices at Hofstra. While it was great, those days are over. Its time for LI fans to realize that the Jets are not coming back to LI any time soon. Second, having attended a practice at Florham Park during the 2012 preseason after the lockout when the team did not go to Cortland, I can say that it was horrendous. The facility is not built for training camp or for fans watching anything that goes on the fields there. You can't see a thing. Not happening.

As for Cortland, those knocking it are ignorant. I went to Cornell, as did my wife and my children have attended or are attending. The Finger Lakes region of upstate NY is a beautiful destination in the summer and the facilities at Cortland are perfect for 6 weeks of camp. While winters are harsh and fall is cloudy and rainy, the Spring and Summer are fantastic. People vacation there. So let's stop with the provincialism and just deal with the reality of TC in Cortland. Besides, for the millions of Jets fans in the NYC area who never venture near a training camp and never will (versus the few thousand who travel to Cortland every year) what difference does it make where the Jets train?

Newsday is reporting the Jets are looking for a new place for training camp beginning next year and SUNY Farmingdale is in the running:

"CORTLAND, N.Y. - Could the Jets be returning to their roots?
Farmingdale State is on the list of possible locations for future Jets training camps. Jets staff members already have visited the Long Island campus, sources told Newsday, but the team still is in the early stages of their scouting process."

I'm ok with Cortland, but Farmingdale would be amazing for Long Island.
As a big fan, and business owner within walking distance, i couldn't be more onboard with that idea (which means it won't happen lol)

Marketing. They need to strengthen the old ties to their Long Island base that they've dumped on for the past thirty years. Jersey gets the training facility and the stadium, Long Island has to be thrown a bone to get some of those lapsed fans back into season tickets. Many Long Islanders kept their seats because they were hoping that someday the Jets would get back to the right side of the Hudson only to have their hopes disintegrate with the debacle that is MetLife.
