Can't believe the closed the Wyckoff Bakery, an institution. Innumerable how many family BDay, Communion, Celebratory cakes we got there when the kids were little. Was my wife's favorite from when SHE was a little girl. The buttercream frosting was incredible.

Not to fret though, the bakers there moved their operation to Lotito's Deli in Ramsey. Same delicious goodness.

I'd also like to add I'm opposed to the wild cat formation.

    We shall see…
    Guess not….tsk, tsk…lol
    Nice.
I apologize in advance for interrupting you gastronomic Philistines :D and this fascinating discourse regarding the much-coveted Taylor hams, i.e. pork's "Saturday Evening" step up from Sabrett hot dogs and not to be confused with *ah-hem* real country hams such as S. Wallace Edwards & Sons or, for you sandwich lovers, Broadbent's (a classic 'biscuit' or sammich ham).

Training camp notes from Cortland, Thursday, July 31:

Practice ran late due to a nasty thunder & lightning storm that rolled through campus around 8:30 - 9:15 a.m.

Wind from the w/sw, fairly blusterly. Overcast, low to mid 60's, sun started breaking through in spurts around 11:15. The two practice fields lay side-by-side running east-west vs. the normal north-south configuration of the Cortland Red Dragon stadium that's used for the Green-White scrimmage (Saturday).

The Smith-Vick ratio of plays didn't seem quite as "75-25" lopsided esp. earlier in practice.
Calvin Pryor in a red 'no contact' jersey took part in positional drills. Not cleared for practice. McDougle walked off fairly early, might've pulled something on the wet grass (fields in great shap btw-lush, verdant green). Too bad, he was one guy I wanted to get a gook look at.

You want the bad news or the good new first?…….The bad news?…..ok:

On the 'north' practice field the special teams specialists practiced. Punters started out practicing into the wind…not pretty as Quigley and Schum are not exactly Shane Lechler material (oh Cody Mandell, why didn't they give your low-risk UDFA ass a look?). Practiced into a 10-15 mph wind (that had a little crosswind to it). Again, not very pretty (not terrible but not NFL-pretty). Quigley with his penchant for 'nose up' drops didn't hit any tight spirals and as a result, hit wobbly spirals that didn't really turn over and more importantly didn't have great hang time either. Schum's no prize either; hit wobblers that got caught up and slapped down against the wind.

They switched directions and practiced coffin corner punts with the wind. A lot of crappy wind-drifting, right-to-left knuckleballs….no precise spirals towards to 5-10 yard line mark, more like belt it upwards and let the 'crosswind' pull it towards the sideline. Fwiw, I am not happy with these two and not thrilled that these two hooples represent this year's "competition" where punting's concerned. Alright, enough of those stiffs….just sayin', it's a concern.

    Vick in at QB:
    - low throw to Kerley on a 12 yard hook, Kerley drops down and makes a nice basket catch vs. tight coverage.
    - LB Enemkpali (#51) a nice 'edge' pass rush vs. Ben Ijalana (#71) but slips on the wet grass as he's turning the corner.

    Simms in at QB:
    - hits Michael Campbell (#18) on a right side out pattern for 10.
    - Overthrows Jalen Saunders (#16) on a bomb down the right side vs. Rontez Miles (#45); Saunders with a 1/2 step on Rontez.

Boyd (looks small) in at QB:
    - rollout on right side, incomplete pass.

    SHORT BREAK

Now for the fun part: the goal line drills (tried keeping up self-texting the plays to myself--missed one or two).

    Geno in at QB:
    - Handoff to Bohannon - stuffed. Defense chirping.
    - Handoff to Ivory - beast running TD. Offense (wearing white) on sideline giving it back to the defense.
    - Geno rollout to the right - TD. Penalty called - Quinton Coples chirping. This is great!

    - Play of the day: handoff to Ivory, Ivory is a fearless beast….but he got smashed short of the goal line. Most violent play of the day, bodies are flying and getting knocked around all which sort of ways, Ivory included. Jeff Cumberland has his helmet ripped off his head and gets into a scuffle that dies down fairly quickly.

    - Rollout, throw to Amaro (#88) open in right corner on endzone…dropped.

    Vick in at QB:
    - rolls left, heavy pressure, throws it away.
    - Handoff to 2nd string, UDFA FB Chad Young (#47) who tries to go over-the-top and is stopped cold in mid-air. (Young while stocky looks verrry short out there).
    - Handoff to Daryl Richardson (#35) stopped short of the goal.

    Boyd in at QB:
    - Another handoff to Daryl Richardson, another stop short of the goal. Richardson not a bad-looking RB but is not a short yardage pounder.

    BREAK

Resume regular offense starting from the 20. Geno in at QB:
    - Bomb completed down the right sideline to Nelson over Antonio Allen who was late coming over and badly beaten.
    - Slant pass to Cumberland knocked down by Jaiquawn Jarrett, nice play by JJ.

    Vick in at QB:
    - RT jumps offsides; pushups.
    - Handoff out of the shotgun to Bohannan, nothing.
    - Pass out in right flat to Daryl Richardson, short gain (3-4 yds).
    - Another penalty; pushups.
    - Zack Sudfeld runs an inside drag up the seam on the right side, coverage totally blown and Vick hits him in stride with about a 25-yard pass and Sudfeld lumbers down the field, makes an inside move at around the 10 and waltzes into the endzone. Play looked to cover 60+ yards. Nice play but more on the defense not accounting for him--secondary brain cramp.

    Simms in at QB:
    - Incompleted 'out' pattern on right side to Michael Campbell (#18) however Ras-I Dowling called for PI (kinda 'iffy'); pushups.
    - Simms rollout, can't find anyone, runs out of bounds.

    Boyd in at QB:
    - fake 'belly' dive, bootlegs around left end for around 5 yards.
    - Boyd pulls ball down and scrambles up the middle for 3-5 yards.
    - Boyd hits Chad Yound (#47), Young with a drop.
    - Bomb down left sideline, speedster Saalim Hakim has Brandon Dixon (#42) beat by at least 2 steps however Hakim does not track the ball well and stops his feet in a premature (and needless) attempt to hi-point the ball and as a result, the ball comes off as a overthrow (if he simply kept running, he had 6).

    END OF PRACTICE

-Amaro "stays after class" and is getting extra redzone work with Vick throwing and MM supervising. His hands aren't 'quiet' when the ball hits them; guy's clearly pressing at present. Big frame, hope he snaps out of it.
    - Switching direction, Amaro working vs. Jaiquawn Jarrett with coaches throwing.

Chris Ivory and CJ2K signing for an extended period. Ivory's the man!…took off his sweaty shirt, signed it and gave it to a kid. More on them (and 'misc' notes) later.

I'm not proof-reading this, so sorry for any typos/spellings, etc. Please resume your "Food Network" discussion ladies :)

Hey thank you so much for the camp update. It's good to know there's actual training camp talk and updates going on here besides bullshit and completely irrelevant food talk. It's good to see that there's some semblance of Jet related talk going on. :D

I know I am a bad fan but it is OK I guess, no? :)

I hate Wild Cat Stokes. I thing it is phased out. I don't mind to see it maybe once every few games but I really don't want to see it at all.

Wow, that is really encouraging, what MM said about Geno and looking off the defenders. I'd definitely rather Geno try to do too much (look off twice) than be incapable of doing that at all.

I'm not sure what's going on with the Wyckoff bakery. I heard rumors that there was some kind of dispute over the property, and it involved the owner of Aldo's. But that was like a year ago and could've turned into nothing. Stokes, you should ask the guys in Ramsey about it.

Guys, I don't know why you keep repeatedly derailing the 2014 NY Jets Official Egg, Ham & Cheese Sandwich Thread with all this Training Camp chatter.

Now in my day, we'd have great breakfast sandwiches on kaiser rolls- two fried eggs with black pepper, a slice of Boar's Head ham, and some melted cheddar cheese on top of the eggs.

Folks, the egg yolks burst, and you get a good mix of sharp cheddar, runny yolk, and salty ham. The pepper backs you up, providing a vital counterbalancing "kick" to your sandwich experience. The kaiser roll's deep bread reservoirs serve to keep this culinary contraption tidy despite the explosion of yolk and cheese. Moreover, the bread actually absorbs some of the cheese and yolk, increasing the flavor per square inch (FPSI) by anywhere from 10% to 12.5% depending on the outdoor humidity and moon phase (waxing gibbous being the obvious preference here.) The key is to eat this sandwich almost immediately after it's made, as the quality begins to drop rapidly once the eggs and cheese start to cool. This is not the kind of sandwich you can save for later; like life itself, this sandwich demands your immediate and full attention.

I don't believe in putting ketchup on this sandwich; similarly, there's no need to salt the eggs as the salt from the ham provides a sufficient counterbalance to the greasy fattiness of the eggs and cheese. As for ketchup- no. You don't want the overpowering sweetness of ketchup defiling this delicate symphony of flavor and texture.

If he can get some consistently in regards to this and stop staring receivers down - Geno will def become a better player in his 2nd season.

Holding onto the ball issue, that's going to come with experience. A lot of good news about Geno - I hope it's not fools gold.

Look at Jets Esq. busting out the gastro-metrics. Impressive.

Your book cover should be a vivid illustration of Fabio, eating a Taylor ham egg & cheese.

What do people think of Cumberland? Is he a viable NFL caliber starting tight end? Or could Sudfeld replace him without anyone really being disappointed ?

Figured that Idzik is high on him based off of the extension but he's been inconsistent with drops and he rarely leverages his measurables which on paper are quite the mismatch.
