I think Idzik is saving cap room because there's no reason to throw money at players unless you're sure they're the real deal and 90% of free agents don't qualify to have money just thrown at them. The other 10% may qualify but the team that signs them is going to regret it anyway at some point.
So if multiple sources are all referencing the first source to break the idea it makes the idea more valid than if nobody picks up on it and references it? There's no news that comes attached to anonymous sources that is worth anything. Everybody is selling and until they have a source with a name they're just churning for hits. Once they have a real source then the news becomes worthwhile. PFT has some counter-selling going on right now. Not going to link it but you can't miss it if you go and take a look. Why would the Seahawks divulge the extent of their offer? What possible purpose could it serve for them? By doing that they're resetting the negotiating space in Sherman's favor because that becomes their offer. I don't believe the reports. I believe that somebody is trying to stack the negotiations in Sherman's favor. That could be just about anybody but it is unlikely to be the Seahawks.
Agree about the percentage, but free agency is designed for overpayment of players, it's a team against competing teams and the player's agent instead of just a team against the player's agent. And obviously most players that hit FA are the ones their previous team didn't deem worthy of singular negotiations and decided to move on in most cases. Seattle is one of those rare exceptions that has hit on their high, mid, and low round choices and it paid off in spades, but like you said earlier, they are in for some tough decisions soon and Idzik knows those players well. I think it's likely that he's been paying very close attention to Seattle to see which players are lost as a result of those decisions, he'll have the motherlode of cap space in '15 and '16 barring some unforeseen splurge in cap money.
I get that this is Revis related, and he is a former Jet, but come on guys. Haha seriously, we sure love to chat about anything Revis related still eh?
haha it was pretty spur of the moment Reminds me of the intro of that show, when he squirts the milk at the camera.. anyway nice to have you back. we needed the sarcasm, and narcissism. It hasn't been the same.
You don't have to back far in NFL history to see where paying a CB 13mil, and a young QB who will want a huge payday very soon gets you. Sherman is not going to get a long term contract for 12-14 million from Seattle. He may get a 1 year deal for that, or a long term deal for a lot less. ... I don't think he's that good on his own and he's not getting any younger.
I'd be surprised if they keep Lynch. Turbin is probably just as good and they've been grooming him behind lynch for a couple seasons now.
sorry for the offtopic but the 22M we are under the cap this season wont carry over for further seasons so why we didnt sign guys for 1 year deal even if overpay.
Why won't it carry over, it did last year? In fact here is a chart of just how much each team started this year with. http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/116713/inside-slant-salary-cap-carryover-numbers
He could be great and at $12-14M a year he's hurting the Seahawks. It's a zero sum game. You have X dollars to pay your players over time and you have to use the money efficiently. Otherwise teams that do use the money efficiently are going to have the competitive advantage.
Sherman agrees to a 4 year deal worth $57.4 million, a little North of $14 million a year. Like I said. It will be a long deal and he'll get it.
