Why is everyone using sacks to determine the productivity of a defensive tackle? On most plays their job is to generate interior pressure while maintaining control of their gaps. On 3rd down they get more opportunity to rush the QB. You also have to consider how often teams use lineman stunts and what the overall game plan is. So metrics like pressures are much more appropriate. PFF gave Leo an above average rating for the season and it's their job to evaluate using metrics relevant to a player's position. So yeah, Leo has been playing pretty decently and we should think about extending him if the price is right and/or if we want to drop his cap charge in 2019.

And what do you think Williams would have been able to do playing with Gastineau, Salaam and Lyons rather than Shepherd, Anderson, Pennel, a Wilkerson that mailed it in after getting paid, etc.

Three of his sacks came in one game. He had two sacks in the other 15 games. He went eight or nine straight games without a sack which absolutely positively SUCKS.

There's no way this guy is worth a $14.2 million salary going into 2019.

I hope the Jets come to their senses.

    Heartbreaking story.

Tough life Leonard Williams has had.

His salary. Where he was drafted.

Aaron Donald is the new standard for production from a DT. Simply being a DT is no longer a valid excuse for having cr@p production.

If he wants to get paid like Donald he has to produce like Donald.

I keep seeing PFF mentioned. Who are these people? Why should I care what they say? How do they define a QB pressure? If a QB drops back to throw has seemingly forever to pass but doesn't get rid of the ball because he can't find anyone open (good coverage) then finally Williams bumbles his way near the QB that's a 'QB pressure'?

I watched every Jets game this past season THERE IS NO WAY opposing QBs were under that much duress when they played the Jets because of Williams play. Please.

The standard for DL was established by HOF players not PFF.

Warren Sapp, Reggie White, Deacon Jones, Mean Jo Greene, Charles Haley, Bruce Smith....etc (Mark Gastineau not in HOF but still dominant DL.)

The one thing they all did was get to the QB and set the bar for what a pass rushing DL should be great at and that’s sacking the QB.

Yes the 3-4 changed the responsibility for the DL as they are not called on to rush the QBS but to eat up blockers so LB can make plays, that being said Leo has been productive in the 3-4 and I believe that he will be even more productive when Jets switch to 4-3.

I can see when a player gives high level effort on plays.

    I don't want him gone.

Let's see what happens with Greg Williams.

He is STILL on his rookie contract. This is the way things work. Who gives a shit?

That's my point. What does it matter?

Again, we literally just paid a backup QB 10mil to be on this team last season.

Think about that and how insignificant that is for this team based on that alone.

We wont be paying a backup QB that kind of money this year...

So, again, to see how he does in a scheme that suits him best, why wouldn't you want to see how he does first?

If your only argument to CUT him, you're not even talking trade, to CUT him, is that the production hasn't been there... can you not see how that logic is flawed?

Considering many believe he has been misused, he is under contract, young, was garnered the best player in his draft, and he plays hard despite it all...

Why wouldn't you want to play that out?

Who cares about the 14.2mill? Honestly.

As usual, a nonsensical response from you. No one said we should feel sorry for him. No one said he had a tough life. On the other hand comparing the supporting cast players have around them is a very valid point. I mean you were saying how the O line had a much harder job because of WR injuries, it couldn't have anything to do with them sucking, could it? So the O line sucks because the WRs were injured but for Williams it doesn't matter who was playing on the line with him or at LB.

Yet you expect people to take what you say seriously.

You should get a better job where you don’t have to get up early and get home late just to pay the bills so you can’t watch football.

There’s gotta be another career out there for you.

No thank you I enjoy what I do. :)

The NFL can kiss my behind I don't recall anyone from the NFL paying off one of my bills for me to even consider changing my lifestyle to watch them do their jobs.

I watch 99.9% of Jets games the other teams if I can and if I want to watch I'll watch if I can't or I don't want to watch it's no biggie.

It's not like the NFL is putting out a superior product nowadays with all the rule changes, awful officiating that are ruining the game, designed to artificially increase scoring look at the DREADFUL Super Bowl they put out last week.

For someone that doesn’t watch football you seem overly cranky about it.

Lol the NFL doesn’t pay your bills.
