Who knows. Jut a theory really. The main point is he may have other options that allow him to grow more
Well, it apparently won't be Vance Joseph, since ESPN is reporting that he's going to Arizona and Kingsbury. That would seem to make Williams the front runner, no? http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...inals-make-vance-joseph-defensive-coordinator Note that the GM said that the Cardinals are going to switch to a 3-4 before they hired Joseph, so people shouldn't be so sure about what defense coaches supposedly prefer. And it sounds like Kingsbury is a lot less enamored with his own college assistants than Rhule is.
There was no thread discussing OC or DC candidates yet and I was interested in hearing who other people wanted for EITHER the DC or OC job... I mentioned Payton in the OP as a pipe dream pick (which i stated) I mainly wanted to discuss possible coordinators under the new head coach.
I was really excited to have Greene on board as s position coach. I'd be willing to see what he can do as coordinator, but I am somewhat leary just not knowing what he would be like as a play caller.
One of my biggest worries of a Kingsbury hire was the staff he’d be able to bring over but he seems to have done a pretty good job, that staff doesn’t look too bad.
I imagine they can find a good DC. What I like about Williams is that he will kick New Jack City in the ass, for starters. A hard man is needed for these losers who think they are pros.
An unpopular opinion but a reunion with rex ryan wouldn't be the worst thing in the world as a DC. Since its looking like the DC will be the HC of the defense we could use a guy who knows the ins and outs and actually knows how to use a press corner and pressure defense. If sam develops and the offense begins to operate at a high level that insane blitzing defense of rex's becomes extremely potent unless its 3rd and 17 with a wide open TE running down the middle of the field.... Regardless, we already have the foundation of a 3-4 d, no reason to destroy it in the name of "change" we just need someone who understands how to capitalize the players in the system.
Just throwing this out there, but what would anyone think of Mangini as DC? I still feel he was done dirty his last year here. I have watched him break down film, and he is super knowledgeable. Think his time away would have served him well as a Coach too.
I still think they will end up with Rob Ryan. The Johnsons always bring in the perverse, surreal, almost-but-not-quite version of what they need.
Gace should immediately call DeGuglelmo and bring him back to the Jets. Was OL coach for the Dolphins in 2017 and here for the Jets in 2012. Stunner: The #Colts are letting OL coach Dave DeGuglielmo go, sources say. That line made tremendous leaps this season. But Frank Reich wants his own guy. DeGuglielmo was the only offensive coach Josh McDaniels had hired. Reich is actually recommending him to other coaches.
This is it. The perfect OC. Him and Gregg Williams for the defense. Will fantasize about it for a minute and then resign myself to the cold hard reality of being a Jets fan.
