He was his QB coach those years.
At least know the guys history if your going to try to convince me he's a great coach.

He develops Darnold + the cash the Jets have to spend this offseason they should do a bit better than that.:)

Make no mistake about it by making this hire the expectation is to win.

For the reason you stated, I doubt the Gase had a lot of influence on Manning when he coached him.

    So, yeah.

Also, I wouldn’t know Gase if I bumped into him in the Port Authority.

What I don’t like about the little I’ve read about him is that his argument with Fins ownership was over his emphasis on the Fins’ D, at the expense of upgrading their O-line.

The guy is our coach for the next few years, no matter what I think of him.

I’m a fan of the team, and I want what is best for them. Obviously, I hope he succeeds.

I am just not optimistic about it at this point, that’s all. Nothing I’ve read about the guy makes me optimistic just yet, either.

He might be a genius, or an idiot, or somewhere in between. But he’ll either succeed or fail with this team by what happens on the field. No matter what Peyton Manning, or you, or I, think or say.

Remember, Gase wanted Tannerhill. He had full control of the roster, hand picked Cutler and Osweiler.
Cutler was an insurance signing during preseason, necessary because Gase wouldn't shut Tannerhill down when he tore his ACL, opting to continue playing him. As a result the knee was weak, hence the need for insurance. Didn't work out to well either way.
Darnold had to be the priority, a coach with a history of developing QBs should have been a priority. A coach who would want to upgrade the O line ,not throw a fit when it was suggested, should have been a priority.

With the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft the Jets select.

Going to have to way overpay to get FAs to play under him. Lots of negative opinions about him amongst active players

I look forward to the 2021 coaching search. Should be some decent young OCs out there ready to make the leap. By that point, we’ll be trying to make a decision on whether or not to move on from Darnold or give him another chance with a coach that can develop him.

This is my biggest problem with this signing. You can be an asshole and win, you can't be an asshole and miss the playoffs. This reeks of signing the offensive version of Eric Mangini.

So he's not a great personnel guy okay he's not getting total control here.

Miami made a mistake giving him total control.

The hope here is that Darnold is a better a much better QB than Tanehill was and that MacCagnan does a much better job getting quality players here.

It will be great if he winds up putting Mehta in a body bag during a press conference.

Mehta championed this guy so hard.

I just read that Darnold wanted the Jets to hire Gase.

Can someone tell me what separates Bowles from Gase? Both were coordinators on very good teams. Both had hot starts in their first year at HC. Both fizzled out completely. Neither recovered. Neither have developed a single QB. At least players liked Bowles.

It’s a disaster in every way.

This is beyond sad. The most glowing sound bite on his resume is beating the Jets 5 times while with the Dolphins. We all wanted the Jets to get this right but they once again screwed the pooch. I wonder how much input McCagnan had in this decision.

It is what it is. Enough bitching. Time to get to work and see what he can do. Not gonna waste more energy on being negative here, (and I didn't want Gase). But he's here, and got recommended by Peyton Manning, and Darnold seems to be eager to work with him. LETS GO JETS

I just don't understand alienated 90% of the fan base. Can we all be that stupid? Did they see something most of the population of Jets fans didn't? Gase was a terrible coach and practically run out of town in Miami and he's supposed to come here and make things different?? He was most of our last options, I didn't even think it was a possibility, just doing due diligence. Unreal.

Yeah, they share an agent. Sexton is working overtime on Gase with the media lately and its paid off because they conned Johnson and Maccagnan. (Some might suggest that isn't hard, but I'm not so cruel.)

Experienced head coach with a reputation for being offensive.
