He is going to go somewhere that will offer him starters money. He's not a Jet fan--he's a Teddy fan. He just turned 26. He isn't in the league to be a long time back-up. Lol. That's emo talk.
Agreed on the potential controversy. Bowles and everybody raving to the press “sam doesn’t make the sam mistake twice”. Then after he started making those same mistakes would there have been clamor for Teddy to get a shot?
This is a crap theory. They traded Teddy well well well in advance of those twice born mistakes. They had to have some really emo foresight to even think that. How about just assuming it was the logical choice. Sam starts all year and rather than lose Teddy for nothing, they traded him for serious draft Capital with zero investment. All that speculation about MAYBE a QB controversy is the female version of Machiavelli.
I was a proponent of starting Teddy week 1 but I changed my mind. What would have 7-8 wins gotten us? A free agent QB who we couldnt sign (with Sam waiting) plus mid round picks. Meh Tank it out
Wont be getting any comp picks at all. We have $$$ to spend. Only get comp picks if you lose more than you gain in FA Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk
I'm betting that TB will be a starting QB in the NFL and will outproduce Sam for the duration of his rookie contract. Heads will explode.
I know as Jets fans we think when a player leaves he will suddenly be a world beater for another team. But for me I can't see Teddy being a starting QB in this league. Jacksonville and Giants will go for young guys or old proven pros. Teddy is alright but will not command a starting QB job as is not proven. I think he will have to wait for someone to get injured and then get a chance, but he would have to be Mahomes or Brady impressive to suddenly take the starting role. I see him as a fitz figure, bouncing around being a back-up, having a flash every now and again, but ultimately not the man for the future. We got something, could have been better which i think sums up Mac, alright sometimes but also bad. Don't think after April we will mention Teddy often ever again. I also think we will have a new GM and head coach so will be talking about that more. Darnold should easily be better than Bridgewater, but he needs the right coaching, which is certainly not in place right now. re-boot on black monday and build a new team to develop Darnold and co.
I disagree. Teddy is a player. He's smart, hard working, accurate, and is an inspirational leader. I would never bet against Teddy. Teddy has already proven himself a very capable starter. He did it with the Vikings and he was doing it with the Jets in TC and preseason. The Saints didn't give us a 3rd round pick for no reason, or for a one season rental.
I'm thinking Teddy is the starting QB for the Dolphins next year. Born in Miami, HS in Miami, a local hero and better than anyone on that squad.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Teddy Bridgewater is on the Saints Roster so what the Jets do in free agency has no bearing on his current or future value.
Good point, he’s a possible comp pick for the saints, he would not have been for us if we had retained him.
The instant we landed Sam Darnold, Teddy Bridgewater was history. Teddy was penciled in as the backup to McCown to get him some national attention, and up his trade value. With Sam getting about 10% of the 1st team reps in camp (behind McCown 60-70% and Teddy getting most of the remainder), there was no way Sam could be ready for the opener, even if Bowles wanted him to be. Sam would need to somehow leap-frog both McCown AND Teddy and get close to 100% of 1st team reps for the remainder of camp to even have a chance. That would never have happen with Teddy and his re-built knee on the roster. Really the ONLY sensible solution was to trade Teddy during camp. I, for one, was calling for it to happen. In reality an untested Teddy would get us a 5th tops, but with a partial TC under his belt and not looking terrible, MAYBE a 4th. Getting a 3rd for a QB that was on the street a few weeks earlier was Macc Magic. There were 30 other GMs kicking themselves for not doing the exact same thing. A team with 2 QBs is a team with no QBs. Macc acted decisively, avoided immense camp drama, and cleared the way for his guy.
....or, Bowles may have told ownership he intended to start Teddy at QB, so Macc traded Teddy just to stick it to his buddy Bowles
