I would hope so and also he is given a few plays in the game as well, he can come in and do some damage, nobody wants to just return punts and kicks forever, he will have some ambitions no doubt and we could maybe offer enough to make it worth him staying, if he proves to be good enough in real games obviously, hell he may well just prove good enough to be a true number 2 change of pace back, this guy may well get in the way of that other hybrid rb /fb/te that we got in FA Flowers, he also looks intriguing and I would like to see more of him as well.
My best com-for him is Deon Lewis....Lewis is 190lbs....similar attributes. This is my best case scenario for him.
Yea but there is a big time difference with the WR & RB position(s) along with a big difference in physicality of play. An outside speed demon deep threat of a WR such as a Robby Anderson isn't having to get tackled by defensive lineman and DT's who weight 250-320+ lbs on a consistent bases. And there lies the difference between the two. I'm not saying he can't or won't make it but historically speaking outside of Dri Archer and Tim Dwight I can not recall an RB 185 lbs or less actually making an NFL impact at RB. Can you? Because I can't. No. Robby Anderson was not a good example nor an accurate comparison.
I was about to ask the same question. Not only is his size a concern but the fact that he is from a D2 program is a concern for me. I know there have been successful D2/3 players but its i feel it's something worth noting.
The comparison was used because that is what people were saying about Robby when he was signed, so the comparison is a valid one, cheers. You know though, I can't name one. You know why though ? I am not sad enough to know the weights of every single RB that has ever graced the NFL, in fact I couldn't tell you the weight of any of our squad, I am not into the Naziesque measurables that run rampant through combine day.
I was never once worried about Robby's size as a WR. Why? Because there have been a boat load of small/thin/skinny receivers who've impacted the league. A little research goes a long ways. And stop it. Don't lie. Please. The real reason why you can't name an NFL RB (past or current) who's ran @ less than 185 lbs is not because of a "lack of interest to know players weight"... It's because outside of Dri Archer/Tim Dwight.... There are none. That's why. And no. Robby (WR) in comparison to Cannon (RB) is not a valid comparison. Wake me up when Robby Anderson as a deep threat speed demon of a WR on the outside is consistently getting tackled by NFL DE's/OLB's/MLB's & DT/NT's who all weight 250-320+ lbs. That's when your comparison can become valid. P.S: There's a reason why boxing and now UFC have weight classes and it doesn't take a die hard football fan with a high I.Q of the game to not only know but also understand that 185 lbs is All-Time lightweight for an NFL RB. It's not something that only a "sad person" grasps. It's something that a casual fan, a 10 year old child should understand.
Did I say you were worried about Robbie's size, did I, please show me where I said this. I said people had shown worry over his size and the real reason I don't know any of the weights is exactly what I put, also feel free to point out my lie ? Again the comparison is valid for the reason I gave you, the comparison is in the fact people said he was too skinny to play football, he wouldn't last the game, he would get broken, the very same thing that people are saying about Cannon, are you being that stupid on purpose ? It had nothing to do with his position just the plain old fact that people hit on his size as a reason he will never ever make it, the chances are he may not but some people like to just go with the flow and wait and see, maybe even get a little excited that we may have sprung a bit of luck in the 6th round, but no those mother fucking thick arsed 10yo's who selected this waif, have no idea that guys this size will never ever make it in the NFL because guys like DefenseWinsChampionships said he is too lightweight, Mac take a look at Dri Archer for example, how dumb of you to waste a pick. But going right back to your first reply, you came in with your arsey comments and are now getting it back just the same, but there was no need to be arsey the first time around, I never slagged you off, I never poo-pooed your post or your opinion, I thought I was making a bit of conversation on an internet forum, how fucking wrong I was. As for boxing, that is the weakest piece of shit analogy yet, people get punched in the head in boxing, a 20 stone heavyweight would kill a strawweight in a fight, Cannon seems to have survived college football, were no doubt there was some big lard arse DL ready and waiting to mangle him at the first opportunity, so you get tackled in football, so going off your thoughts give it 10 more years and unless you are 6ft10" and built like a brick-shithouse you may as well not bother dreaming of being an NFL player. You keep going with the insults right to the bottom of your post if it pleases you, other people liked the post, so there must be other 10yo's posting on here as well. Enjoy your day/evening/night. Cya
^I'm too tired to read that through, but cya brings back funny memories. Only it wasn't cya. One of my closest friends in the world, whenever something went south with a boyfriend, "What happened to XYZ?" "Seeeeeeyaaaaa."
DefenseWinsChampionships may be the guy with the Amazon sized girlfriend or also Phillystax, whoever that was.
Well......I can see why everybody is excited with Cannon since the Jets haven't had a speed burner like this coming out of the backfield in quite a while. However there's a reason he lasted until the 6th round......obviously his size is an issue. He can be a legit HR threat every time he touches the ball but that will mainly be as a KR/PR. The Jets would be smart to give him no more than 4-5 touches out of the backfield per game - there's 3 other capable RBs anyway. They can't overuse him or he'll be out of football in 2 or 3 years.......but if he's used properly he can be the X factor...
You're not sending a guy that size up the gut...no matter how fast he is. Get him the ball away from the big uglies...end arounds, laterals, sweeps, passes out the backfield, etc. He won't last a lick getting hit by the big guys.
Don't take it personal I've always liked you as a poster K'OB so my apologies if came off like a prick but yea don't get me wrong I'm excited over Cannon due to his blazing speed and insane acceleration. I'm especially looking forward to him as a Kick Returner. We haven't scored a TD off a KR since I believe 2013, our average yards per kickoff return has been pretty much dead last and the days of Chad Morton, Justin Miller, Brad Smith, Leon Washington and Joe McKnight feel like a thing of the past so yes, I'm anxious for Trenton Cannon to become our new human Joystick out there. And one of the greatest most explosive kick return specialist of All-Time in Dante Hall of Kansas City was only 5'8/187 lbs. And with Elijah McGuire getting hurt Cannon has a big opportunity and I'm pulling for him as a RB because I do miss the days of a Leon Washington type change of pace scatback as an additional offensive eliment to get excited about. I was simply pointing out that historically the only two RB's that I've ever seen at either 185 lbs or less were Dri Archer & Tim Dwight. I'm currius to know if there's ever been any less than 185 pounds within this era and if so, I'd like to know who. If not I hope he can break the barrier time will tell.
