    Appropriate, considering Hackenberg is worthless.

    Probably Bowles fault though.

I'm surprised it took this long honestly.

Well I guess the QB whisperer couldn't turn Hack into Joe Montana.

If his throwing release was as quick as his roster release, he'd still be a QB somewhere...

It took the Raiders 2 weeks of practices in shorts to see that he wasn’t worth a 7th round pick even after 2 years of “development”.

Holy shit. And people complained about him never starting a regular season game.

And from what I've been reading, Fales is outplaying Petty. It's almost like we got rid of two really bad QBs and it had nothing to do with the people coaching them...

Off topic, but wow, reports are also that Petty looks to be the third stringer over Osweiller. What a strange and undeserving career that guy has had.

Both Petty and Hack should have made the trip north with Manziel. Never understood why they didn't. Evidently their lack of development had nothing to do with the people that coached both of them because nobody ever coached either of them in the NFL. Qb in the NFL isn't a DIY project. At least Darnold has Bates and McCown. Petty and Hack had Master Chan, Fitz and Patullo.

Doubt he cares anymore, but this has to hurt Mike Macc somewhat deep down. And by hurt, I mean make him feel like such a dummy for even drafting him in the first place.

That is one question that should haunt Macc for a long long time..

Nope. He drafted Sam Darnold. If he turns out as good as I think he will, no need to think about the past. :)

Seriously though, Hack is truly mind boggling. I thought he would turn into a solid NFL Starting QB. Potentially great. Instead he was traded for nothing after 2 years as a 2nd Round Pick, then instantly released after the trade by his new team. It's not quite Ryan Leaf or JaMarcus Russell, but it is a major bust. Something must be wrong with him mentally. Only thing that could possibly make sense.

Well whatever went wrong with him went wrong long before he got into the NFL. He should have been a 5th round pick highest... a guy that showed some semblance of competency at some point in his collegiate career and you can take a low-risk shot on him. He had been downright bad for two years before entering the draft. How anyone thought he was worth a 2nd round pick is beyond me.

Yep. Speaking for myself, I just felt once he got into the NFL some of that stuff could get coached out of him. I remember how great he was when he first arrived at Penn State. Also, some thought his struggles were due to the team around him at Penn State and the new coaching, but that turned out to be not true as they have been fine (better) without him. Mac messed up for sure, but I was on his side at the time of the pick, so I get where he was coming from.

Oakland Raiders cut QB Christian Hackenberg

The Christian Hackenberg era in Oakland has officially ended, as the Raiders waived the former Penn State QB on Tuesday afternoon, per the NFL's transaction wire.

The Raiders acquired Hackenberg from the New York Jets on May 22 in exchange for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2019. Oakland will now keep the pick, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.

Raiders head coach Jon Gruden, then an analyst at ESPN, was a fan of Hackenberg coming out of college.

"What he showed during that first year at Penn State -- before the coaching change, before the system change, before all the things that derailed him -- would be enough for me to take this guy early," Gruden wrote in an article for ESPN. "He just has to get in the right system with the right people and refocus on the small details."

Apparently, after less than a month in the Bay Area, Gruden had seen enough to make this decision.

Hackenberg (a 2016 second-round pick) and linebacker Brady Sheldon were both waived to accommodate the team's signing of defensive tackles Ahtyba Rubin and Frostee Rucker.
