There shouldn’t be much to negotiate, I believe Mayfield and Barkley have signed. Sam’s contract is going to be around 31m fully guaranteed over 4 years.

    Is this a strategic thing?

Off set language is usually the hold up. But there is really no reason to panic at this point

This happens every year with the first rounders. It’s no need to panic or cause for concern. He has insurance so he’ll still get paid in case of injury in OTA’s and the team has him in camp to begin working.

The first round contracts, IIRC, have a bit more to them than he later rounds with the different provisions for the extra year option and a couple other items. It will get done before long.

I don’t think anyone was trying to work too hard leading up to the holiday weekend, grilling plans to make and such

None of the top 5 picks have signed yet.

offset language is the kind of the holdup

and he is due a about a 20 mil siging bonus that is the other hold up
teams like to pay those out in 3 or 4 payments over 2 years. he might want all of it up front. that is what is holding it up.

I wouldnt worry about it til trainging camp starts deadline spur actions.

Yeah..let's all hurry up and wait

Fingers crossed Mac doesn't play hardball with Sam the Miracle Man and his Agent...

Pretty mind blowing to understand how a 20 year old becomes a multi millionaire overnight...but I am sure he will be worth it

I think it's somehow related to the Kaepernick collusion case against the NFL.

It's been known all along, of course, but the two numbers given reminded me just how much money Rosen lost by him falling to number 10. We tend to focus on the psychological effect and humiliation of sitting in the room waiting, but with the view that the top four QBs were viewed as somewhat interchangeable in terms of where they'd end up being picked, the $33 million contract Mayfield is going to get is a hell of a lot more than the $17 million Rosen got. Darnold is projected at around $30 million and Allen at around $21 million, assuming of course that none of them are so bad as to not stay for the length of their rookie deal.

That $12-$15M is a bit hit no doubt, but being they are fully guaranteed it will be about getting that 5th year option and their second contract. Rosen just needs to show the fortitude to turn the hurt of the wait into a strong first 4 years. I think by year 5 the Browns and Bills will be moving on to their next franchise QB while Rosen cashes in.

Why would anyone use the word "strategic" when referencing the Jets? That's like saying I gotta take a crap, but I'm out of toilet paper.

Why is this thread made every year? Some contracts take longer to work out than others. They will figure it out, no rush.

Folks can’t be happy we finally have a true franchise QB.

Hey, maybe he’ll hold out through week 10 and force a trade.

Or more likely he’ll be signed next month.

You're actually saying the Jets have a true franchise quarterback today? Not the chance to have one, not a potential one, but he's there, he's been anointed?

If so, we're working on different definitions of the term. I tend to consider a franchise quarterback the rarity who consistently gets his team into the playoffs, occasionally to the Super Bowl and sometimes wins the whole thing. What's your definition?
