Except that wasnt the story the agent made up. He claimed the Pats were interested in trading up for Mayfield. Real story was the Pats wanted to bring Mayfield in for a workout/meeting and he refused to go to NE claiming that the Pats at their draft spot would never get a shot at drafting him. Some nerve and stupid too. The Pats then turned around and said they were trying to move up in the draft, basically forcing Mayfield to meet with them. Reality was the Pats wanted to meet with him in case he dropped to a reachable spot. Then maybe if the price was right and the meeting went well they would make a move. Far different story
Nobody has ANY idea what was said and what wasn’t. By or to whom. Claiming you know what the Pats were thinking is ludicrous unless you work for the Pats and are actually in the inner circle at the highest level. Everything leading up to the draft and even after the draft is a smokescreen built on a lie with a basis of illusion tainted with deceit. Let. It. Go. To quote Aristotle “Nobody knows shit”.
and why should you care if someone makes a post saying he won't be successful? it works both ways. Who really cares. he's not a jet, he's not in our division so who really cares what mayfield does at this point
Pretty sure it was far sinister than this. The Pats thought Baker would be a Jet so wanted to see him up and close to see where his weaknesses lie + how they could best game plan against him.
All BS. The last person Brady wants to see up in Foxboro is Mayfield who is a lightning rod himself with a huge ego and commands a lot of attention. It would've been too complicated a multi team transaction for the Patriots to end up at 2, because the Giants would've no doubt probably demanded they stay in the top 10 or no deal. So they needed more actors in this transaction. I mean the only way they could'v'e made the big leap to 2 is if Belichick traded himself to the Giants.
Well they are trying to build a brand. They have the Behind Baker series as well as his own line of merch coming out I think (one episode had him designing a BM logo) so yea publicity is very critical to them as well as a Nike sponsorship. Darnold has done some ads as well. Kay jewelers and Bose. Can't really argue with this approach since football is such a devastating sport. You have to pile up the $ as quickly as you can because it can all end in a heartbeat
It amazes me that fans who have no problem tearing into their own teams players or with Jets fans doing the same with a LWilliams, Lee etc, have more of a problem with whittle Bakers critics.
11/20 Basically Callaway accounted for 60-70% of what Baker accomplished tonight Nothing about him seemed special. Bryce Petty looked better than this. And he was playing against a bad defenses 2nd and 3rd stringers.
Yeah, the reports of his demise are greatly exaggerated. So funny to see people jump ship over nothin'
Mayfield was fine tonight. You can see the lack of size, lack of speed, etc when he plays, but he gets the job done. Hopefully he continues to improve for the Browns sake. Again, they helped the Jets get Darnold, so I wish them nothing but the best!
He was OK. Completed 11, was like 5 of 12 in the first half. He threw maybe 3 or 4 nice passes, the TD was nice.
Off of last night you know he would have been fine? 50%? A handful of good throws? A handful of off the amrk throws impressed you
Tonight Sam will be up against another scrub defense and I hope he does as well as Baker did As I have said before I think they both will be good.. To say Mayfield isn't special is a bit prejudiced (sorry) ..just check out the plays at 3rd and short he ran for ..his passing to Njuko in end zone for TD was made in heavy traffic in those tight windows that everyone said he couldn't do ..lol Don't get me wrong ...I really like our Sam but No commentators had anything bad to say about Baker
The back shoulder throw, wasnt a back shoulder throw. Unless hes the first QB to purposely make a back shoulder throw to the inside. The 3rd and 18 to a wide open WR was in the ground, costing yards. The big third down conversion in the middle of the 3rd, again, wide open, thrown behind the receiver costing yards. He completed 11, the TD was nice and has to be made by a QB, the sideline catch was nice. Other than that? Petty like. A rookie getting his feet wet.
