Why in God’s name we would trade down 13 spots in the 5th to move up 21 spots in the 7th Mac can haz math
It was a dumb move. Arguably the Vikes will be picking around 25th each round next year. Mac should know they need front end picks this year so fleece them for higher round picks next year, don’t settle for late round garbage picks. He was scammed. At least he got a DL contributor from Colts for a garbage pick.
I don't think anyone knows what they are doing..it's like a combo of the Keystone Cops/3 Stoogies This new guy Bates better have a Clue to make Darnold great or they are all fired
Yep When you think about that fool Woody set it up for possible failure/conflict because Mac can't just get rid of Toilet Bowles..they BOTH are under Johnson
Sure every board is different, but that doesn't explain trading out of the 5th round entirely. I would find it incredibly difficult to believe that there wasn't a single player left on the board that the Jets thought would be a good value in the 5th round. A perfect example is Ogbo Okoronkwo. Many "experts" had him rated as a 3rd round pick. Some even had him going in the 2nd or late 1st. Following is the link to his nfl.com draft profile. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/ogbonnia-okoronkwo?id=32462018-0002-5599-45e1-8076208eae71 If you've seen this kid play, you know he's got a great motor, works hard, and makes plays. He has some power, instincts, and athleticism. If they didn't like him, they could have taken one of Tyrell Crosby (OT), Scott Quessenberry (C), Micah Kiser (ILB), Troy Fumagalli (TE), Tyler Conklin (TE), Wyatt Teller, (OG), or either JK Scott (P) or Johnny Townsend (P).
Crosby, Quessenbery,Fumagelli and Kiser we're all off the board. How could Mac have selected them? Okoronkwo is undersized and is very likely to struggle at OLB against longer tackles. Kid does have a great motor , much like Mauldin. But that alone rarely translates to success at the next level.
2 Possible reasons: 1. They needed the earlier 7th round pick to trade for Anderson. 2. Mac wanted to do an inexpensive favor for the Vikings GM. Relationships matter. It's important to not win or drive a hard bargain on every trade when building relationships. There may come a time down the road where Mac needs something form the Vikings and being a good guy when they needed something puts him in a position where the Vikings are less likely to drive a hard bargain and screw us over.
