I'm surprised there's no thread for this year. It already happened, but the opening ceremony is on NBC at 8PM tonight. I love the winter olympics, although I wish they'd put less of an emphasis on the figure skating in the TV coverage.
Agreed! I like the winter games much more than the summer games. Of course being Canadian has a lot to do with that. I'm not sure Canada pulls off the threepeat in ice hockey without the NHL'ers though. 13
Is this an nhl deal to not participate? I like amateur competitors in the Olympics better anyway - seems more pure.
I'd like to see a curling channel all year round. Really, who doesn't love a game where "the hammer" comes ten times a match? "TCC - All curling, all the time!"
It always amazes me when i sit back and think about how some of these people dedicated a large portion of their childhood to becoming a world class human Zamboni in order to win an Olympic curling medal.
Childhood? Only if Dad brought them along to the ginmills in Wisconsin and the UP that had the curling rinks (?) set up in the backyards. It seems like just something guys do there instead of throwing darts. Now, getting beered up and running around on a sheet of ice doesn't seem to be the safest way to spend an evening but I did break my ankle in a bowling alley once.

Ok, can someone help me understand this..... Russia was banned but are still allowed to participate? I thought a ban denied them any part in Olympics?
Russian athletes that are clean can participate the Olympics. But they will participate under Olympics Flag and when they win Gold medal instead of Russian anthem Olympic Anthem will play.
Can't wait, Matt!!! In women's hockey, the Canadians and Americans should just play a 4 out of 7 series. Other countries are far behind in skill level. 13
just saw this thread---the opening ceremonies I thought were the best ever . We watched with a few people and we were all wowed
