What Jet game traditions do we as Jet fans share? A Steelers fan was regaling me with the songs and cheers they participate in. I’ve heard the Eagles have a song, some chants, and a few cheers. We have the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS cheer. All teams fans cheer “FIRST DOWN” as do we. Did we ever have a song?
Gotta be the chant right? One of my fondest memories was about 20 years ago when the Jets were going to play Denver in the championship game. I was building a chimney standing up on the roof with the radio on WFAN. It was a nice day and obviously WFAN was all in on the upcoming game. Callers would call in from the stadium with whatever friends, families or help they could find on site and give the JETS chant. It was awesome and a lot of fun. I went home in a sky high good mood looking forward to watching the game and of course they lost, totally deflating everything. So that day pretty much sums up the tradition of being a Jets fan Dreams being cruelly crushed.
"Well I ain't sniffed the playoffs since 2010...Not really sure I'll ever see it again...Gonna get drunk man..no more Jet tears...I want one bourbon.."
Me and the dudes I have tickets with each game repeatedly sing the following to the tune of camptown races each pre-game "Brady is a deadbeat dad, do da do da Brady is a deadbeat dad, all the do da day. He neglects his kids, he neglects his kid, Brady is a dead beat dad, he neglects his kids" Simple and gets the point across brady's a deadbeat dad.
I peel off my socks in slow motion and throw them at the TV during away games. That goes back to the mid-70s. Oh, I mean, not after TDs, more like TDs getting called back because of HOLDING. Goddamn holding is probably my middle name, I'm just not aware of it. Salinger fukked up, by the by. It's not Holden Caulfield, it's Holding Coughfield. Jesus H, how am I still alive being a fan of this team?
"Daddy is yelling again!" My rabid Jets fan friend, Vinnie's daughter, Gloria, crying and confused as to why Daddy was screaming at the TV on Sundays. She was two, now going on 16. Daddy is still yelling, Gloria is no longer crying and confused. She's become desensitized to agony.
This isn't college there aren't all that many traditions. Steelers fans have their towels and "Here we go Steelers" Eagles fans have their song/chant, we have a chant. Redskins have a song.
I like the song but hate hearing it at Heinz Field. They have a terrible sense of timing when they play it. I prefer the old Jets tradition of Minnie the moocher. I don't think any other teams play that unlike sweet Caroline etc.
