Small school guy creating buzz at the Senior Bowl. Similar to Hassan Reddick last year many draft pundits are projecting him in the Top 10. Could this guy be an option at 6 if the Jets can get Cousins?
Agreed, he needs to bulk up also. Later in the game in came out grimacing with some pain, not sure why.
From the reports I listened to he did not win a single one on one drill in the entire week of Practice. He flashed in the game though. His hands are great but he needs a lot of work. He's a late first to second day prospect at this point. Any thing else is over drafting on potential. I'd much rather throw money at Ziggy Ansah this off season.
Do you have any concerns about Ansah playing linebacker? Though Bowles will probably just find a way to put his hands on the dirt and pass rush.
I Loved him coming out of school and wanted us to draft him badly. He has the size and strength to play 34 end on early downs and the ability to rush as a 43 end in the nickle which we play a ton of. As for pure line backer I don't know. I saw him as a great fit in rex's bear defensive fronts. I think he's athletic enough to do it but would be a liability in coverage. He's more the James Harrison type. His best skill is getting after the QB so let him do it. He was a 34 End at BYU so I see his versatility as a huge plus to Bowels.
Sounds like a great signing to me, we absolutely need an EDGE rusher to help take the pressure off Leonard Williams. Ansah will win his matchup on the outside. Jordan Jenkins can continue to do his Calvin Pace impressions as well.
Agreed! we need an edge and this, by all accounts, is a poor draft for edge rushers after Chubb. Hence why I feel we need to throw money at Ziggy.
i like ziggy in our defense too. but as someone who has family from ghana, be warned, ziggy is probably a lot older than his listed age
If the Jets sign Ansah, what do you think about their drafting an edge rusher in the 2nd or 3rd round to groom behind Ansah? I like Ororonkwo's potential a lot. I think with a year or two learning from Greene and Ansah, he could become a potential terror for opposing QBs.
I’m not a huge fan of Ororonkwo. His technique is extremely raw and he’s a bit undersized. He’d be a good developmental guy day three but before that is reaching for potential. I don’t love this edge class at all.
For a big free agent signing like that and somebody who should be a starter on the defense for the next several seasons or more, it wouldn't make sense to draft somebody to groom behind him on Day 2. IMO I would be good with Jenkins and Ansah as starters. Depth could be guys like David Bass, Kony Ealy (also 3-4 DE), maybe even Donahue.
For the most part they've selected the BPA in Round 1. Davenport doesn't fit the description at all. Not even close to the BPA.
So to that point, if we sign a QB instead of drafting one, the Pick will be Nelson, another great talent at a non premium position ...
Potential is not something you want to be taking in the first two days. You want talented proven players to round out your roster. Guys you know will be players in this league. I'm not sure Ororonkwo has enough athleticism to overcome his size limitations.
Nelson or Connor Williams, the LT. If we perhaps do not bring back DeMario Davis, maybe Roquan Smith could be a selection? I know defensive player, but Smith is really good and would make Lee a better linebacker.
Your not thinking like Mac. Williams will be a good tackle, but is not a great talent, same for smith, while Nelson is going to be a great guard, a generational type talent, just not at a premium position.
