An OC can't arbitrarily decide to quit. That's a decision that comes down from the HC. He just toed the company line.

There is no way Morton would just go rogue like that. Bowles is his boss and told him to basically scale things down and quit.

Morton did a great job this year getting what was predicted to be a historically bad offense look quite good at times. It was to the surprise of many...a solid functional offense before McCown got hurt.

It's unfathomable that Bowles is still here. Just an inept idiot

Also what the hell happened to Revis and Wilkerson? These guys played their asses off for Rex and totally quit under Bowles.

exactly. Once that bank account got swollen, effort and heart fizzled out.

On the other hand, Bates wasn't even in the NFL the past few years and has been a QB coach here just one season. Possible he just knows he isn't ready to make that jump already.

Bates to OC would seem to be an odd choice for the Jets to make now

Woody hasn't hired a experienced head coach since he bought the team in 2000.

    Entry level = cheap.

    Experience = more expensive.

    Quality experience = VERY expensive.

If Jets head coaches rank amongst the lowest paid coaches in the league what do they pay their coordinators?

It's no wonder we always hear/see about change on NYJ coaching staffs.

Woody has the cash to make the Jets jobs VERY attractive so that the people who work here don't look to leave the first chance they get.

The problem starts at the top.

It's all good for Morton before 2017 he had no experience as a OC but after a year with Woody's entry level coaching staff he has something to put on his resume, some film for other team's to see.

He'll be fine he'll get another OC job someplace else.

As for the Jets? Back to the drawing board to hire the next entry level OC.

Bates quit football at a young age to walk around the country for 4 years. Last year was his first year back in football. To even offer him the OC job is beyond stupid. This guy could walk away at any second. I'm glad he turned it down.

But as always in the Jets world since this regime has taken over....

    "Everything is fine."

Sounds like Josh Allen to me ... get a "Wentz clone" and coach him up like you did with Wentz.

I believe Morton did a good job but if the Jets could get Difillipo i would toss Morton aside like yesterday’s news.

So your preferred OC would tell the HC "F*ck off, I throwing it on every play!!!"?

That's fine but to put the quitting in the Denver game on him is naive at best. The OC calls the plays but the HC determines when to be aggressive, dial it back and/or shut it down completely.

Seattle fans wanted Bevell gone for years. He should have been fired for that dumb one yard pass in the SB. When you have 3 downs and Marshawn Lynch why would you even attempt a pass.

No, not officially, but there is speculation he may be let go of in the coming weeks as teams finalize their coaching roster for 2018.
