Mac in interviews keeps referencing our "young core". I'm curious to know which players TGG thinks makes up this core.
Adams, maye and Robby Anderson, you can be generous and include Leonard Williams, our young core is probably the worst in the NFL
Well you can include Jenkins, lee and McGuire but that's being too kind imo to call them part of our core and if they are then that's really quite pathetic.... Jenkins and McGuire are good for where they are drafted but you aren't winning tittles with them as key pieces of the future....how anyone supports our gm is beyond me
Young Core 1. Leonard Williams DE 2. Sheldon Richardson (if resigned) DE 3. Demario Davis ILB 4. Jordan Jenkins OLB 5. Jamal Adams SS 6. Marcus Maye FS 7. Morris Clairborne CB' 8. Brandon Shell OT 9. Brian Winters OG 10. James Carpenter OG 11. Robbie Anderson WR 12. Jermaine Kearse WR 13. Quincy Enuwa WR 14. Austin Sefarian-Jenkins TE 15. Bilal Powell RB Everyone else with the possible exception of Brent Qvale is either unproven or not young. You might be able to make a case for out kicker or punter as well.
Forgot about enunwa but this is a very depressing list, lots of these players are backups and role players for most teams. I think even the browns could put a less depressing list together
Well outside of 3 guys (McCown, Forte, McLendon), our entire team is under 30. I think one of the youngest teams in league.. Whether or not there is enough quality on our roster is up for debate, but certainly the team is young.
adams, maye, lee, burris, jenkins, moulden, claiborne, williams, ealy, shell, anderson, maguire, maybe ASJ?
They are both starters. Also, I forgot Ealy. He may deserve to be added to the list. Someone else had Lee, Maudlin, and others that I intentionally omitted. Are these guys really good enough to be the core we are building around or do they still have more to prove?
First off, my bad-- I was typing too quickly and wrote Carpenter when I meant Winters. Neither Winters, Mauldin, nor Shell are likely to improve, from what I'm seeing. Lee was better this year, but is still a long way from "good". He will likely never get there, so I wouldn't include him either. Good call on Ealy, though. I was impressed with him this year.
Bilal Powell turns 30 during the '18 season. From an NFL running back perspective, he's certainly not "young."
More expressions from our GM like we are getting some where ...like "young" is synonymous with "very talented" Most of us ...I think..believe that this team is WORSE off than when Mac started his job Solution: Concentrate on Offense get an OL and a FQB that's drafted>>>road to success
Demario Davis was one of our best defenders this year. Of course, including him in the young core would involve resigning him as he is an UFA. Morris Claiborne is another one you should consider.
Williams, Adams, Maye, Davis, Winters, McGuire, Donahue, Jenkins, Anderson, Enunwa, Shell That's about all I can think of. All of that is also subject to change I In a moments notice
Looking at it thru the eyes of Mac, it appears the cupboard is very bare. Our young core is weak by NFL standards. 3 drafts and this is what Mac has built? Come on. We can only go up from here, so I guess there is that to cling hope to.
It seems like such a common sense solution you would think Mac should have known that going in. However, you're correct. The fact is, This team is worse than when Mac started. And really that's probably why Mac and toilet got extensions. Whoevers suggestion it was to go the FA route doesn't matter. Woody forgave Mac and toilet. Woody resigned them for specifically what you say. However, I do believe this is it for toilet and Mac. They will not get another get out of jail free card? If this off season does not go tremendously well for the team, they get canned.
